My 'wish' for 21C is...to start using the 'ball' joints in the shoulders of their figures!! Those extra arms in their sets are ok, but they pretty do the same thing that the figure's arms can do with the arms that are already attached to the figure. An extra arm set with 'ball' joints in the shoulders would be fantastic!
Is 21st Century Toys planning to make an ME-262?
Did I hear something about it a while ago, or am I going insane?

Some years back(2001 or 2002) I read in either Tomart's or Lee's action figure toy and review that 21st had planes for an A-4 in either 1/6 scale or 1/18 scale. Being that a 1/6 scale one would have been HUGE, perhaps it was 1/18 scaled. It is now 2006 and nothing much ever came up about it. Back then the vietnam era XD huey was just coming out so I think perhaps this was planned as 1/18 scale.
So what ever became of it? Its more obscure than the A-10, with the A-10 we at least know the prototype was out there, but with the A-4 it was merely mentioned in a magazine and never really brought up again.
Still the vietnam itch lingers. The A-6 may be ugly in comparison to the fighters but many of us would kill for it. The phantom is spoken for. And Heinman's hotrod....HELL yea we want it!
Being that Roy is a master modeler I'm pretty sure he knows about the numerous A-4 kits that are sold each year and populate hobby stores.
To me, its popularity, small size in comparison to other fighters(leaning towards F-86 size rather than humongous F-4 phantom size), and potential for TONS of paint schemes and the fact that it'd be the 2nd vietnam era jet 21st century could produce leads me to believe that this could be quite the contender from 21st century toys in 1/18 scale. Heck I'm from va beach and I'm sure the aggressor pilots who flew this bird around oceana wouldn't mind nabbing these. I know I'd at least buy a vietnam era sqn bird, a topgun bird, and perhaps a blue angel, since I love the blue angel scooter.
Heck IMHO the A-4 is more popular than the F-104, and if that beat of a dart can be made, I figure, why not the A-4?
Perhaps it would be cheaper as well? And perhaps more profit could be gained than the F-104?
I say Heinman's Hotrod for 2007!!!
And since 21st came out of left field with the F-104(well to me at least, it shocked me that it came out~!!
), I wouldn't mind a crusader and tomcat either!!
But yes the Scooter seems like it'd be a good candidate to be made, its small size making it cheaper to produce than some other birds, and its popularity being a good opportunity for tons of repaints that are not only relevant, but distinctly different and unique!

The bandwagon
Boy, I guess I'll have to jump on the bandwagon about the A-4!! Sure could get some mileage from it: Navy and Marine, plus some international versions (Israeli would be nice!). Also, another candidate for a Blue Angel paint job!

Not to mention FOUR different NFWS Topgun variants!JimBob55 wrote:Boy, I guess I'll have to jump on the bandwagon about the A-4!! Sure could get some mileage from it: Navy and Marine, plus some international versions (Israeli would be nice!). Also, another candidate for a Blue Angel paint job!

I would say our chances of seeing an A-4 are better than an intruder!
I remember those rumors and I thought it was for 1:6 which would have been just crazy! I can confirm without a doubt that 1:6 A-4 is not in the works at all.
You guys make some excellent points however for a 1:18 version. I think I have see this plane on the "list" of suspects. However at this time I know of no plans to make one yet.
This is the list I know about.
Avenger- Should show up any day now.
MiG-15 - ETA not certain but look for a solid 2006 date. (this project is already in production) expect to see some more news on this airplane.
F-86 - Same as the MiG as they will ship very very close to one another if not together!
Me-262 - this one is going to be a "run away" hit model. I feel pretty sure of it. I know some of the details / and features surrounding it and I think when it is ready to show it's going to really impress everyone. They way 21st is building these newer planes and even these new half tracks are pretty darn cool!
The 07 stuff is pretty much "black" projects and 21st isn't sharing that intel yet. I will keep diggin though. It's what I do!

So tko since you mentioned the skyhawk possibly being on the "list of suspects", can you tell us what else was on there?
The skyhawk could also be made with slight retool, into the modern A-4R used by Argentina...the ultimate A-4 so to speak....unless the A-4F and A-4M have a slight edge over it.....
Nonetheless even for the legends line that 21st did with Pappy Boyington and the P-38 ace(forgot his name), 21st could make an A-4 in the legends line based on Senator John Mccain's bird!
I can just see this thing now....40$ of bliss waiting to be bought and ripped out of the package@walmart by an A-4 and vietnam era fan such as myself!
Also everyone of us has been drooling for another vietnam era jet, and being that this was a workhorse in vietnam compared to the F-104, I would have no doubt in mind that it has the potential to outsell the stellar F-104 toy! Also couldn't the pilot from the coming F-86 be used? Its a similar era!!
A-4's all the way!
(And then a crusader, tomcat, strike eagle, intruder, super hornet, MIG-29K, F-4 etc!

I wouldn't say that the A-10 is obscure at all compared to the A-4. It is a pretty well known aircraft outside of military enthusiasts or collectors. I have a shirt that just has the spotter chart profile of an A-10 (no name) and everytime I wear it out in public I have countless people comment on how cool the A-10 is to me without me telling them what aircraft it is. I travel all over and I think it is a great tool for testing recognizablility and popularity. No big gun fetish, it's just an awesome aircraft and a true one of a kind.Shin Densetsu wrote:Tko

But, I say bring on an A-4.......it would be a cool aircraft to have.

I meant in regards to the toy man lol. We only saw one prototype and that was it. With the A-4 it was just mentioned, nothing shown, thats what I meant by being more obscure.Birddog wrote:I wouldn't say that the A-10 is obscure at all compared to the A-4. "the list" is not any big secret. The fact that the planes are all real A/C means anyone can make guesses at what might be on there. Also I should say that there are more planes on the list than there are timetables to build them. You can only make so many new products per year. The F-104, F-86, and MiG-15 represent one of the biggest pushes outside of WWII ever by any company in one years time in the 1:18 scale.
WWII still remains the best military/collector market out there. So, I don't know if we will see another post WWII jet right away. Not that I wouldn't like to see one. I just think the next new thing beyond the 262 will be another WWII aircraft. I want to see a Wildcat! It saw a ton of action and it has so many schemes besides dark blue. But who knows there are also some pretty cool english planes to still be made. A typhoon would rock!
Point is that there are still some very cool planes that can be made. And I will take just about anything with wings on it.

What about helicopters....?
Don't get me wrong, I love all the WWII fighters and the 104, Mig, Sabre, etc....but I would really like to see a 1:18 H3 Sea King helicopter.

eh
When we had the AC poll the Hurricane got the least amount of love. I think maybe 2 votes total...and it was one of the choices. It is just not that popular despite historical significance. That and the skin would be hard to replicate IMO.
It's a shame that the only WWII naval aircraft is the Corsair - albeit there are rumors some company has an Avenger in the works.
When you look at the naval aviator aces, almost all of them went through the cycle - Wildcat, then Hellcat. It wasn't until later in the war after the British worked out safely landing the Corsair on carriers that the Navy started using them in that role.
I'm sure someone is doing "market research" on what to release and how long/how many of something, but there's not enough blue on my walls. Granted, the Navy's dogma about not having nose art has some limitations, but the VF-27 cat-mouth Hellcats survived until the Princeton was sunk and they had to move to other carriers and units. And there were night-fighter versions of the Hellcat later in the war.
Granted, the Wildcat landing gear is an engineering challenge, but it is more along the size and weight of the P-51.
But I'd gladly forgo any of those if it meant a B-25 would appear sooner.

Revell had the Wildcat 1/32 model kit with working gear and folding wings...in the 70's I had the kitGranted, the Wildcat landing gear is an engineering challenge, but it is more along the size and weight of the P-51.
Monogram had a F3F Biplane in 1/32 with working gear also from the 70's my friend had that.
The gear has already been worked out.
I see no reason why it shouldn't be done just because of the gear.
