21st announced a new scale for aircraft, 1/144th

not a surprising move but a good one on their part. Enough other companies have copied their ideas, nice for them to give it back for once..

Why bring a new scale. It will be their down fall. 1st of all 21stC is not that big of a company. Ive met their intire staff and it fits in my livingroom. They have to many scales already. And each scale has Armor, Aircraft and Infantry. We are always crying for more stuff in the other 3 scales. I fear that doing a 5th scale will devert their attentions from the other scale. Plus they have the diecast cars now, and besides who wants 1/144th aircraft to begin with. Roy is overworked as iit is now.
By the way did you get your Avenger Yet?

It's not a new scale. They already have 1:144 vehicles, and I could only assume they have sold well if they are expanding the line. I am not interested at all in these guys, but can't really question the decision.

I'm actually interested in these things for wargaming. Unlike the tanks where you can't find infantry, the aircraft are a different story.

Well, unlike 1/72 diecast, which already has several big names (Dragon, Corgi) and some VERY promising newcomers, 1/144 is relatively open, at least here in the US.

Now, in Japan, the 1/144 market appears to be pretty saturated, as there are several companies doing the "candy" sets (vehicles and A/C come randomly in boxes with candy). Still, there might be room for a more traditionally marketed product.

I prefer 1/72 myself, but c'est la vie.

They seem to be a logical next step to their already existing 1:144 line, and I think they could deliver a good product - perhaps not CanDo quality, but pretty darn close!

The 1:144 line, now that I think about it, has sold very well in my area. There haven't been any vehicles left at the WM stores that sold them. Other items, such as a few 1:18 Bf-109Gs and the 32x Brumbars, Panzer IVDs, and Stug IVs that came before or around the same time as the 1:144 tanks are still there.

Depending on what they make, I would get a few as I have some 1:144 scale bombers on display and would like a couple fighters to escort them

At first I wasn't happy hearing the news about the 1/144 line but then I realized they are a great impulse item. Everytime I see a small representation of a small aircraft I pick one up because usually they are only a few bucks. Plus the fact that they may produce rarer aircraft would make it more interesting. I know hardly a scale meant for detail but a way of showing which obscure planes would sell.

I agree.. I like to pickup an "impulse" item just about everytime I shop..

I like it. I've spend alot more on 1/144 airplanes this year than on 1/18th. I hope they they do some twin and four engine WW2 stuff.

I do not think they are making these so much for us as for mom/dads.Face it with a price point like the 144th tanks lots of moms/dads would buy em if kids asked over a forty dollar plane.I say if it helps 21st stay in the game more power to em!

It will be interesting to see if they make the same old birds or if they truly do branch into more obscure planes.

Well they are kinda cool. I groaned when I hear they were doing another scale of airplanes but they could be a lot of fun for kids to play with on the table top or something.

They're getting deeper and deeper into that rut where they make the same item in 27 different scales. It's great if you're a P-51D fan and you want 200 different things in different scales and formats based on that one plane, but it seems like it saps strength away from fleshing out the other lines.

If these are what the production versions will more-or-less look like, then the 1:144 warbirds will be pretty cool! The detail looks good and I like the fact that the cockpit canopies are glazed. The Hellcat makes sense, and the Frank is an interesting choice. I wonder if the others will be Pacific theater aircraft or if we'll get some ETO planes. (After all, these have to come in an assortment of at least 4-6!)

if you read the blurb it says that they are coming in sets of 4 and the other two will be ETO planes.

I'm going to have to get some of these. I wonder if they'll have stands or optional parts like landing gear, etc. These will go nice with a 3D Mustangs! game.
