new old stuff still around

Post by mikeg » Sat Jun 03, 2006 3:17 pm

I just returned from Palm Coast Fl. and happened to stop by a walmart while there. For those of us who missed the 21st 1/18th winter tiger, m113, and m2 bradley there are still 8 of each at this location- still, for the amazing price of 39.95 each.
Oh, and while there, I met a New Yorwker (all Palm Coast residents are from there or the surrounding states) who was picking up some of the 1/32nd Zeros for a buddy back home. I think I started to talk and carry on too much because he got real quiet and looked at me like the Texan in the "how yu doin" commercial of several years back.

I think its more about pretty old stuff still being available on the shelf after more than at least a year. Can't remember how long the Winter Stuka has been out (5 years or more?), but I found one about a month ago still on the shelf in a WM here in Texas. Shouldn't the WM section be more about finding new things? And also, being from Texas, I can relate to being looked at kind of funny when I was working in the northern and eastern states.

I still kick myself for passing when they were $20.

I think it just emphasizes the disparity between what's available at different Walmarts across the country and even stores within the same region. It also shows that some of the so called rare and out of production stuff can still be found from time to time, especially for those who are able and willing to search far and wide. A friend of mine who is an old "country boy" has a saying that is very appropriate for this: "Even a blind hog finds an acorn every now and then"
