xplane
Congrads on your aquisition! The F-104 is an excellent model! I haven't heard of any X planes myself. I'm not sure they would be overly popular....

As long as we are talking wish list, here's mine in no particular order,
In my opinion any of these would make a fabulous XD model.

You mean like this ??....The NASA f104 is painted like a hot rod. White with a blue stipe on both sides coming to a point at the nose and trimmed with a yellow pinstripe.
Very cool.

I don't mean to rattle anyone's cage, and I suppose beauty is always in the eye of the beholder, but the NASA F-104 scheme is pretty plain vanilla to me, I dunno, I mean compared to say this....

Or this......

Ah well, to each his own I guess.

I doubt ether one of those paint schemes would fly of the shelf (no pun intended). I know I wouldn't buy one. If 21'st is marketing these as toys they really need to get into the NASA market. Maybe sell them at the Kennedy Space center or whatever. I see allot of aircraft enthusiasts wanting all these exotic planes that the average kid has no clue what they are (remember they are marketed as toys) Every one knows who NASA is. Put NASA on some rubber dog sh-t and it will sell. As far as the X planes go even my 12 year old knows the historical significance of the X-1. The only thing killing these may be the repaints possible, red, white, black and silver. From a marketing stand point, if a the average joe walmart / tru consumer was looking at two planes on the shelf, one was a 1/18 scale Macchi (sorry aferguson) and the other was a Fokker dr1 (Red Barron) which do you think he or she would buy? Lets not forget mom buying a birthday present or whatever.

STV, I see your point with regard to the name recognition thing with NASA, but I never said the schemes I posted would be better sellers, only that they are more appealing to me, and that's my whole point, this is largely a subjective thing, and what one person finds attractive is completely different from the next guy. How a company like 21C makes these marketing decisions is anybodys guess, and a good example would be the German F-104, I mean what makes it popular?? Are there a lot of ex-German navy fliers around that want to relive their youth?? I dunno, I can't answer that question, but again, it is largely subjective, what appeals to one group or another, but I suppose they must do some demographic research or something. Cheers,

It's all good. I guess the point I was trying to make is if any of these companys say they won't produce a plane, armor or paint schemes because they will not sell, boggles my mind. What is there fear with an A-10? Do they think a F117 wouldn't sell? O my bad ya can only have one paint scheme. I don't know, I'm just venting here a little.
