someone should have had warned me about this thing, it makes the F-18 seem small.. i cant even fit this thing on my display structures LOL

this is the biggest Plane (wingspan) i now own, its huge!!!

and also its so great to have a swivel front landing gear!!!!

I haven't taken mine out of the box, I assume the front end is weighted somehow to sit on the front wheel?

the nose is wieghted plus the main landing gear is moved way back from scale to add wieght to nose

It is a fantastic aircraft. I have two on my top shelf. As a matter of fact they were my bench mark for building my shelves. They had to be deep enough for my P-38s

Definitely a huge plane, and it was the largest in 1:18 for years until the F-18 (and soon to be Avenger) took that away. It still currently has the largest wingspan. When mine (the S1 D-day version) is not displayed hanging on the ceiling or sitting on my display table, I have to break it down and store it. Luckily this plane dissassembles nicely into several parts and thust takes up very little space!

I built my shelves big. Let’s hope big enough. I just added an aircraft carrier deck to one so it should be plenty deep. Just concerned about the height. As long as shes not much higher than the bbi jets then I’m fine.

Yeah the P-38 will be very small compared to the Avenger - most existing 1:18 planes will

I also have a display spot set for my Avenger - the only problem will be what to do with the two "normal" sized 1:18 planes I usually have sitting there...

The Avenger should only be marginally larger than the P-38 in terms of overall length and wingspan. Though Avenger's "girth" and height will be considerably larger.

According to my calculations, where 1" at 1:18 scale equals 1.5' in reality (someone please correct me if that conversion is incorrect), the Avenger should be 27.3" by 36" by 10.3" tall (taller still with the gear down).

I just measured my P-38 and it measures 26" by 34" by 6.5" (gear down).

Basically I'm saying that if you have enough room for a P-38, you should be able to make enough room for the Avenger...if it ever comes.

I get slightly different measurements, but not enough to really matter.

TBF/TBM-1 Specs
Wingspan....54'2" (36.1" in 1/18th scale)
Length......40'0" (26.6" in 1/18th scale)
Height.......16'5" (10.94" in 1/18th scale)

P-38G Specs
Wingspan....52'0" (34.66" in 1/18th scale)
Length.....37'10" (25.22" in 1/18th scale)
Height....9'10" (6.55" in 1/18th scale)

That puts the Avenger 1.5" wider at the span, slightly less than 1.5" longer, and almost 4.5" taller than the P-38....howz that for size matters!

Size matters...ESPECIALLY on an aircraft carrier...

With wings folded, the Avenger was only 19 feet wide; about 12.5" in 1:18 scale. Can the P-38 do that??

dimensionally the avenger and lightning are similar but when you put them side by side you wll see the avenger will look massive in comparison. The lightning is mostly air in the volume of space it occupies, with the twin tail booms, slim wings and pointy nose. The avenger is huge and bulky and occupies alot more of it's dimensional volume. It's gonna be sooo cool.

Having been up close to the Avenger in 1:18 and placing a P-38 Pudgy V next to it here was my impression.

They are similar in width and length with the Avenger being slightly larger on both counts. The Meaty cowl, large/tall gear stance and the size of the wings just make the Avenger seem HUGE in comparrision.

As ski pointed out... The folding wings are going to come in handy. It's funny when something like a wing fold stops being a "detail" and bcomes more "functional" from a space saving point of view! You would think we were trying to save space on a carrier!!!!!

Thats what I like about the XD Corsairs (and the BBI one, too) is that their wings fold and they store very easily w/o any disassembly

...and if you have a look in my storage cabinet, it does take on the appearance of an aircraft carrier hanger deck, save that not all the planes are naval aircraft.

No wanting to "hijack" this forum, but I am trying to determine the "worth" of a P-38 Samatha Payton. The only flaw it has is the front landing gear broke off.
If it was you selling- what would you let it go for?
