CAN AREA 21 FOLLOW THROUGH

Post by ARMY GROUP 1 » Thu Apr 20, 2006 1:46 pm

ROY SUTHERLAND IN HIS INTERVIEW WITH AREA 21 ON THE 9/06/05 SAID.....WELL WE DO HAVE A SECRET 1:18 ARMOR PROJECT COMING ALONG THAT I THINK WILL MAKE A LOT OF PEOPLE EXTREMELY HAPPY. I HAVE TEST SHOTS ALREADY, SO IT CAN'T BE TOO FAR OFF. MAYBE SPRING OF NEXT YEAR, SOMETHING LIKE THAT. I'LL LEAVE IT TO THE BOARDS TO CHEW APART............CAN I SUGGEST TO AREA 21 ITS TIME TO STOP CHEWING & SPIT IT OUT BECAUSE ITS GOING STALE & DOES NOT TASTE SO GOOD AFTER THIS LENGHT OF TIME. IS IT POSSIBLE TO MAKE CONTACT WITH ROY TO IF ITS STILL HAPPENING OR HAS IT BEEN SHELVED?

Area 21 is the fan site - I don't think that is where distribution decisions are made.

I think that comment was made before the decision to stop making such forward looking statements because of the negative reaction when they prove wrong. Can't imagine why they would do that.

Anyway, they could just say the special armor project was the WC-51, and it came out early. :D Afterall, we should know better than to mark our calendar for things like that so far in advance.

Well, with the King Tiger coming out later this year (ideally) it looks like I'll be keeping into 1:18 armor at least until early 2007.

And how long have we had pre-orders on the Avenger? Two years???

The KT and new Tiger would be nice, but let's see how long we have to wait for them.

By the way, has anybody actually gotten an Avenger? I saw two versions of the Avenger at the NYC Toy Fair. One with aliens riding shotgun between the pilot and the rear gunner. But where are they??? On the boat? Sure, sure. What's the promise now, May? June? December? next year?

You guys heard the interview the same as I did. I believe that the Armor project mentioned in the interview could have been many things. Could be the King Tiger, could be the Whittman tank, could have been the Beep. Or it might just be something else nobody knows about yet.

Not to be a tease here but on more than one occasion I have heard 21st say "Armour guys are going to love some of the new stuff this year". (it's still only April)

I have said it before and I will say it again... When it comes to being a fan you are in 1 of 2 camps. The one side wants to know about EARLY stuff ASAP. (the complaints come in when it goes "quiet") Or there is the other camp of "Don't show till it's a go". (they complain about delivery dates which are seldom announced and even more seldom accurate due to shifts in the industry, product calls... etc.

The bottom line is that you can't please everyone. So AREA-21, myself and 21st tries to do it's best to meet somewhere in the middle and give you what we can when we can. You guys might notice there have been no Firm dates given on anything lately. Unless we know it is on the water. We really are doing our best.

If all of this has taught me only one thing it's this.... Don't underestimate 21st. They ALWAYS have someting else up the sleeve.

Don't worry... It's going to be a fun year, More is in the works, and alot is hapening behind the scenes.

Gotta run

TKO, your right you (21st) can't please everyone. I'm just happy knowing there will be some new 1/18th armor.
My hats off to ALL the folks at 21st for this XD product line, I sometimes sit and look at my collection and think what it would cost to build and paint in 1/16th  ....... tanks $300 - $400 a shot.... figures $15 - $30 each. I think I'm in the first camp but I can also wait... what the hell it'll be out when its out, thats fine with me. 8)

The Armor question is a good one. Obviously the focus is more on airplanes as they always sell better to a larger audience. So any nervousness surrounding figures or Armor is understandable.

That said the great news is that figures seem to be moving quite well and as a result Armor pieces seem to be improving as well. So hang in there. I am sure they are coming. 21st is moving along better than ever. I am also excited to see what the all new figures will be.

With my website, I find that if I annouce a new DVD coming soon and have a preview picture, sales basically stop for other products until the new product is out.

So as I like orders, when I can ship it is when I put it out in the window.

So I don't really like the pre order basis, hell I've had a few 1/12 and 1/18 diecast cars on pre order for years now!

As with the 21C stuff, I want to be in line for the first shipment, so preorder is necessary.

Has any one ordered stuff from that motorpool site? I would like to get into the line for the AT Me 262, I can wait for "another Zero"
