Any real difference between TBM and TBF?

This is the place to put those reference links, posts on books, movies, photos, and etc.

Any real difference between TBM and TBF?

Post by flpickupman » Mon Apr 17, 2006 9:55 am

I've seen the Avenger designated both as a TBF and TBM. Is there a reason for the different designations?

The TBFs were produced by Grumman and the TBMs - by Eastern.

Ah. So basically the same situation as the Corsairs produced by Chance/Vaught versus the ones produced by Goodyear. Tak?

Well, the show I watched on the Military Channel this weekend stated that the Eastern (General Motors) Avengers and the Grumman Avengers were nearly identical. So it appears to be simply a difference in manufacturer's designations. Thanks for the info. :D

Oh! By the way, did you have any luck in locating a parts supplier for the 1/30 Hen Long Sherman?

I have unluckily no news in this question. The seller offers still the whole tanks, but you can buy them much cheaper, than before the Christmas :? . So I'm waiting...

On a slightly related subject, is that the difference between the ME-109 and the BF-109?

Here's a good link describing the origins of the Messerschmitt.

I believe the Bf designation was the correct term throughout the war for the 109 (built by BFW, a subsidiary of sorts). The following Me designated aircraft were wholly designed and built by the parent company of Messerschmitt.

If I good remember, the last serial produced plane with "Bf" in the name was the 110. All next ones were "Me-s".
