thoughts on 21st and BBI's models

ive only had so many WW2 planes, my first was the First Corsair that
21st had at TRU, although a sweet plane, it to me was lacking.. very weak plastic, wings were very brittle and it broke after only three days of doing flybys pass the Cobra Terrordome. The Second one a 109 from Walmart that i gave to my ex becuase she loved German stuff.

Once BBI came out and i stumbled upon the Little Bird, it was great, minus the rotors which were hard to keep on during play, soon after that
it was the Hummvee.. i was hooked. Then picking up the 21st Century CIA huey it was love at first sight, and was just a badass toy, it even bounced on the landing gear, made it feel so real!...

then the age of the 1:18th Modern Jets hit, and i bought the F-18 the minute Badcat had it for pre-order!.. i still love it, but i kinda am dissapointed that it has no wing flaps.. or anything really small in detail
sure it might make it cost 100$ but it would be worth it to me. then of course the F-16 and the Jolly Roger F-18 i snatched up.

but now the Modern has slowed to a turtles pace, and made me go looking elsewhere in timelines, my next and probable most favorite to date is the F-104.. its huge, light, and has moving parts.. alot! this thing
is great! it really makes me want to see 21st do some modern day Jets
just to see how awesome they could be..

not to down on BBI, i bought the Old Crow P-51 today.. and i have to say
its much better then i thought it would be, moving alerons, high detail..

which this all gets down to this, why did BBI take a short cut on the Modern stuff?..they are doing these WW2 great, but the modern stuff has no real fun or dio properties..

and why hasnt 21st tried their hands on newer modern stuff, like the F-18 and stuff thats been around since the 70's?

just my thoughts!

Its tough to say exactly why BBI included more detail on their WWII aircraft than their modern jets (like movable control surfaces, etc.) but it could be that the jets were older concepts and that BBI improved their product quality and functionality over time. The same can be even more clearly said for the BBI armor pieces - compare the LAV with the Sherman. The large jets and helicopters are still VERY cool and unique pieces in the world of 1:18 aircraft.

21c has done a number of modern pieces that have been around since the '70s including their AH-1W SuperCobra helicopter (which is the best 1:18 helo, IMHO) as well as the M2 Bradley (best overall 1:18 modern tank, IMHO), Hummers, and late-mod M113 APC.

I like the fact that 21c has also focused on the WWII and Cold War eras in their aircraft and vehicles and that it offers the greatest selection of aircraft types and paintschemes and I hope to see some more selections from these periods as time goes on. 21c may also want to pursue some newer pieces of 1:18 modern armor, perhaps even vehicles that BBI has already done like the M1 Abrams, and produce a vehicle of much better quality!
