I just preordered the Atlantic version too. Though my collection of Pacific theatre aircraft is pretty thin I just really like how unique the Atlantic scheme is. Should really stand out in the collection!! I'll probably order the Bunker Hill scheme too later on but after this long wait the end of May is long enough if you ask me!

I had an easy decision to make (get the Atlantic scheme) until BCA threw the Bunker Hill into the mix. Damn!
I'm not going to buy two out the gate. So the question is how to display the one I get...In flight? Or on gear with wings folded, access door open, etc?
When to buy a second one? Now, or wait for one the all the repaints that will come from this model?
Decisions, decisions.

Speaking of repaints, anyone care to bet on how many repaints there will be to justify the cost of this bad boy? We just might see an example from every carrier (including escorts) that fielded the Avenger. lol

I told you guys a couple weeks ago that I spoke directly to the CEO of 21st and in that conversation I was told that the Avengers were in production and would be on the water in 6 weeks. The fact is the board members heard it HERE first directly from the CEO of 21st! But hey who cares!!!! I am just glad they are almost here!
YES I did confirm that WM is getting them! I would plan on them getting the Atlantic and some of the Flight 19! But is ANYONE going to tell me that they are going to wait for distribution on this one? And who can pass up the bunker hill scheme?
A formal article for the general public will go up on AREA-21 once I know they have hit US Soil!
So I want to know who is planning on all 5 Flight 19 ships??????

Are they releasing all 5 tail numbers?tko211 wrote:So I want to know who is planning on all 5 Flight 19 ships??????

Since my GF is big into the Bermuda Triangle and such, even she wouldn't be able to say anything about me buying the 5 Flight 19 Avengers. lol
Oh! Does anybody know the difference between a TBM-3 and a TBM-1C? Because if they come out with all 5, the flight leader's plane better be a TBM-3. Otherwise, I'm not gonna play!

Equally split right? We're not gonna have to hunt down a rare tail number are we?
Either way, I think this might be my XD coup. I think I'll be pretty satisfied (and broke) if I can successfully pull it off.
Ordered a Flight 19 ship. Hope it's the tail #28 depicted on Bad Cat.
Now that I think of it, 21st should grant a small reward to any individual that buys the whole Lost Patrol. Not necessarily another airplane, but something. Whatcha think TKO?

I preordered the Bunker Hill one from Bad Cat since it is an exclusive. I am going to wait for the others to show up at WM. I want all three paint schemes, but the price difference between ordering them all, and ordering just one and hunting down the others will be almost enough to pay for the third one. Plus, I like the hunt and I've waited 2 years for this plane, what's another 2-3 months.
I have no idea if all five are evenly split? I would guess that they are? I think that people who want all five might have to do a little trading / on line shopping would be my guess. Certain flight 19 numbers might be more popular than others... Like the flight leader?
No matter what it should be interesting!

All you guys that are preordering from the online retailers that have the due dates posted, dont hold your breath. I just got off the phone with my inside sells rep at 21stC. And he told me that July is a more realistic date then May or June. I dont know about WM they also get the stuff months before the rest of us retailers do. Any how when I get my hard copy preorder form from 21stC thats when I post the preorders on my site.

Well, if it turns out to only be two (and perhaps an extra alien in the Flight 19 planes) then I just might have to track down a carded Corsair Pilot. I can't believe that with a removable turret and opening side door that the third crew figure would be too difficult to place in the rear compartment...

Last I heard there was going to be 3 crew members. Though I think 1 of them was going to be already placed in the aircraft? I am not 100% on this information and things do have a way of changing from time to time.
I have already placed an e-mail to Roy Sutherland on this topic. He and I get along great and he will ususally tell me if knows or if he can. I will try to get the skinny on this real soon.
As far a actual release dates.... There is always that question hanging out there. But I can honestly tell you that the Atlantic Scheme Avenger as well as Flight 19 are both in production in China as we speak! Trust me, they are not going to get them done in the next couple weeks and then store them untill June or July. They are going to ship out.
Some of this production run are going into Wal-Mart and the rest are hitting On-Line retailers. I am not waiting for WM distribution on this one, at least not my first purchase. I would suspect that On-Line will be seeing these ones first- most likely by a good month or so! So yeah it might be June for WM. The point is this is no longer a "believe it when I see it time table." In the end Dates could be off by as much as a couple weeks. But rest assured this airplane is in production on the assembly line right now.
Like I said, this is why AREA-21 has held off doing an official article until we have confirmation from 21st that these aircraft have reached the U.S. We wanted the next Avenger update to read. AVENGERS ARE HERE IN THE USA NOW! It is going to be a great day.
PS I suggest making space and folding the wings back for storage. These are AMAZING in person! Very big, and Very detailed. You will be impressed!

Avenger history
I think this has been worth the wait! Sure looks good! Getting ready to be put on the boat:

I've ordered the Atlantic version...it was the first one we saw and it sure made me aware of the Atlantic ASW efforts. I believe that the Atlantic TBM's usually flew with just two crew: pilot and gunner (who usually manned the lower gun on sub attacks)
Someone asked about the difference between the -1C vs the -3. (The 21C version is the -1C) The only visible difference was the engine cowling: the -1C had a single upper cowl flap on each side, whereas the -3 had cowl flaps all the way down to the exhaust stacks. From the front, the -1C had a single airscoop at the top, but the -3 had two--one at top and one at the bottom.
Most or all of the Atlantic TBM's were -1C's. Most mid war Pacific theater (including Bush's) were -1Cs. The Osprey book I have on Avenger units list mostly -1Cs for the 16-17 February 1945 Tokyo strikes (the yellow cowl signified Japanese home island raids); although a few units were equipped with the then-new -3's. Going earlier in the war, the -1 (no 'C') that were used at Midway, were almost indistinguishable from the -1C's, except for a single .30 caliber machine gun just in front of the cockpit.
As mentioned earlier, 4 of the 5 Flight 19 A/C were -1C's; only the flight leader -- FT28 was a -3.
