F-104 GEAR PROBLEM-ANYONE?

Post by mikeg » Thu Mar 23, 2006 7:20 pm

One of my rear landing gear on my German 104 came with way too much side to side play where it rotates on the "mounting rod at fusilage". With gear down this meant one wingtip dropped about 3/4 inch lower than other. The fix was almost ridiculously easy, even for me. I unhooked the support strut, unsnapped the gear it self and noticed the top of the gear was moulded far to open to grip and rotate tight enough on this "mounting rod". I placed the shaft of a thick jewelers screwdriver in the end of the gear, fired a match under it, bent the end back, and reinstalled it back on the 104- so far so good. My silver 104 had no such problem.
It's probably not that impressive, but my last determined modeling efforts were around 1972.

Interesting. Mine are pretty tight.... Good fix, though. :)

Good call on this one mikeg...... I noticed the main gear on my S1 104 was a little off. I tried your fix- you were right on the money! Thanks for posting!
