WW2 color photo site

Post by theToyFederation » Tue Mar 21, 2006 2:23 pm

Maybe this has been posted before, I don't know. Here is a great site with over a thousand color photos from WW2.

There is also a color footage section and a couple caught my eye. One is a Japanese Kamakaze who survived and is in the water as a US Navy ship comes up on him, he commits suicide with a grenade(for good measure a sailor also pops him with a .45). For me the interesting thing is after watching and reading about WW2 all my life, I had never seen this footage. Always good to find something new.

Cool Video....I watched that at work 8)
Anyway, does he pull the pin with his teeth? If so it appears he has NO time to throw that thing (if he had wanted to). Forget smoking one off, that is a suicide fuse.

Yes - very creepy - I was at work as well...

He survives a suicide mission and in shame of failing the mission floats ontop a grenade - was like a three second fuse - unless they made a quick 3 second edit.

Seems odd to me that a Kamakazi pilot would take a granade along with him on his last flight. Unless he thought he might kill three or four rescurers, but wouldn't he hurt us more crashing his plane into a ship?

Curious.

Great site by the way, good find ToyFed.

A good friend of mine actually made that site ;-) I have a few aviation photos in his other gallery.
