I have a MIB (mint in box) Gate Willys Jeep that I am debating as to opening for placement next to my BBI Sherman. Since I already have several Gates and Solidos already on display, anyone who wants the Gates (which I actually prefer to the Solido SAS, but second to my 'covered' Solido), you can have it for what I paid, which was 14.95 plus shipping. Anyone that wants to see any of the three above Willys can just e-mail me a request, and I can send a JPEG picture....

1:18 scale Diecast Jeep by Gate.....

Teamski: The Gates Jeep is really nice. They also make a version with Sarge, Beetle bailey, and Otto. The regular version and the Solido Jeeps (I think both the SAS version and the U.S. covered version) are available at the Motor Pool in Glen Cove, New York (www.themotorpool.bigstep.com)
Good Luck!

centone,

The 08 picture link is definitly not the 'covered' Solido, but a much better model! The top appears to be fabric...while the Solido is plastic. In addition, the attached tools are more realistic, since the Solido are the same OD as the vehicle. I would love to know the maker of the Jeep you linked, and would replace my Solidos in a heartbeat! Let me know the homepage of these links...or any info you can dig up.

Thanks,
John

centone,

Thanks for the good information...heading for the search engine (and the wallet) right now! I can't seem to get enough of these jeeps...the bride says that I give her the Willys....

O.K. No more efforts at sit down comedy....

John

As Centone says the Gates needs a repaint. Color is post war semi gloss color. Great for M series stuff but nowhere near correct for WW11 drab flat olive.

I've had two - a Gates and a UT. Quality-wise, the plastic pieces aren't the best construction but overall both look great and work well with XD. However, both are noticibly larger than the XD jeep - not out-sized, but enough so I couldn't display them together.

G'day All

Well I got my 21stCT (First edition) Jeep in the post yesterday :)

So I sat the Gate Jeep (First edition with fixed hood) and the 21stCT Jeeps side by side just to compare the approach the two model makers took to create the same vehicle, they are dimensionally approximately the same size with the only major noticeable dimensional differences IMO being in size and angle of the windshield, here I believe 21stCT seem to be more accurate. The Gate Jeep also rides a lot higher due to having larger diameter wheels/tyres used.

Many of the Gate versions fittings such as the handles and blackout light appear oversize and due to the multimedia construction are hot melted into place, although this does avoid the 21stCT glue smear issues.

The Gate gas can and dashboard treatment are fare more refined than that on the 21stCT Jeep and the Gate’s hood thickness wins hands down, not sure if this is still true with the second Gate release that has an opening hood that would most likely now be made out of plastic.

Overall for me 21stCT seem to have achieved more of a Jeep feel to their version than Gate has, but both have their strong and weak points and are equally welcome in my meagre collection.

The non-availability of the 21stCT in Australia also makes the Gate option for most a no-brainer.

So anyway that's my 0.02 dollars worth.

Thanks for the comparison, Spud. I don't envy your position in the XD world by a long shot!

I only ever got one jeep when they came out along with the kubelwagen. I'm surprised that 21st hasn't looked at producing them again.....

Hi Spud,

The opening hood on the Gate is diecast...and you are right, the Gate 'sits' higher than the Solido! Thanks to Centone, I have a Tamiya 1/20 on its way to me, as well as a 1/18 GI Joe, which he steered me to on e-bay. I will give you my thoughts on both when I can see them 'up close and personal'!

Take care,
John

G'day Guys

Ski, Yup it's a manure of a situation  , but I at least have a buddy in your neck of the woods that keeps my 21stCT addiction almost under control. Still a lot of things on my want list though.....

By the way love your pic's on the other thread, I'm still comming to grips with my camera (Canon EOS300D) unfortunately it's quite a dumbed down camera compared to the other Canons I have owned, but it was the only way I could afford to get into Digital (EOS20D is the one I want but that will just have to wait), what I miss most is the ability to spot and partial meter not to mention the frame rate.

John, Look forward to reading your reviews, as reviews are one of the main reasons I come here.

I'll post some 21stCT / Gate comparison pic's if I can make some space available.

In going back thru the old posts I came across this thread on the Gate jeeps. I guess we can thank EBAY seller Savannajones for that remarkable deal he just had. :D :D

Once in a while eBay suprises you. The SavannaJones deal couldn't be beat $4.99 and free shipping. I received my jeeps in a day & a half. They are a Jeep parts dealer and their entire business is not toys. Good people, my son has bought from them for his "real" Jeep. You know, the kind you take into the woods and break and then they have to take my "real" army trucks to pull them home and sometimes get tickets for riding where they arn't susposed to be.

Anyway, that's the way eBay is susposed to work but seldom does.

The Gates jeep is impressive for detail, even the engine. Some small parts are oversized but nobody is perfect....except of course for us, and sometimes I have my doubts about a few of youse.

Ain't that the truth! I had my last remaining MIB Gate jeep up for auction the same time these 5 dollar ones showed up!

Didn't someone once say "life isn't anything but timing"? [/quote]
