Japanese figure questio???

I have several of these series 1&2 and was really looking at them and thought hey these would make good NVA soilders.....anyone else agree???

One problem is the NVA had more modern Soviet era equipment and gear. Much of this gear came way of China, which means you would be more likely to see a Thompson than a Japanese SMG. But whenever I get too strict with myself (start looking up the type of US first aid pouch issued with which trousers...) I remember that in war anything is possible, and that these are toys we are trying to stretch in all directions so....what the hell. Also, VC could have been armed with anything so you can really let your imagination go.

You could find japanese as well as german weapons and equipment used by the NVA. Japan occupied Veitnam during WW2 and left a lot of Gear over there. The Russians funneled captured Nazi arms and equipment to the NVA as well. Ive seen examples of waffenampt K98s captured from the veitcong forces as well as MG42s and Japanese Ariska's.

Much better answer than mine I have seen VC with all sorts of stuff but not so much the NVA...back to the books..

And the height problem is solved by them crouching in the bushes so you are all set.

If ya ever get the chance and you are in the Ft Brag area in NV. Stop by the JFK warfare center and vissit the special forces museum. They have a lot of cool stuff on display from vietnam.

Along the same lines as using 21c Japanese figures for VC and NVA troops, and given the equal lack of 21c US Viet Nam figures, I wound up using some 21c Marines as passengers in my UH-1C gunship.

I replaced the WWII weapons with M-16s and a grenade launcher and took off some of the pouches. Although the figures do have the WWII bandoliers, the helmet shape (and color) and even the uniform aren't all that different from what was used in Viet Nam. They work as long as one doesn't look too closely, which is easy since they're sort-of hidden in the Huey's interior.

Just another idea for beefing up one's Viet Nam era troop numbers until the Platoon figures arrive

Hey Tman thats a good Ideal. And as far as kids go, they dont know the difference. As far as most adults know, they dont know the difference either. Come to mention it. I always thought the Veitnamese Officer in Rambo II looked more like a japanese officer then veit.

Great! Now that serves a purpose to buy up the remaining Japanese figures (not that there are a lot of them) that are sitting on WM's shelves and maybe we'll see the S2 BOB figs in my local area.

I seem to recall that during the French time in Vietnam, they also used some old Japanese fighters in the early days of trying to retake their old colony. Someone can correct me on this, but I think they had a couple Rufes the Japanese had left behind, but they crashed during training and didn't see any combat. Still, its an excuse to buy a BBI Zero, convert it, and have it sitting around.
