Guys:
Are you saying 1/6 isn't "small scale"?
I would welcome a section on this board, just like 1/18, 1/32 sections devoted to 1/6 but there is always a "spill over". threads on 1/16 on the 1/18 section, and of course the baby stuff going down to pin head size on the 1/32.
I agree, there are a million & one 1/6 boards but most are not devoted to WW2 (which is the majority of our current discussion) and just simply, it is not run the same as this board, with the same people. I guess what I'm saying is even though most of us 1/6 guys on this board are also 1/18 guys and we like you guys even if some of you don't like us and our big clunky toys,
we like it here especially if we can talk occassionaly about 1/6 stuff.
Stuff rags in our mouths, be mean to us, and we'll be quiet but I really think we are all "small scale".

this is starting to sound like the beginnings of a mutiny.
This is the way it's always been, right back from day 1 at GP's place. As i said, there has been lots of tolerance for 1/6 discussion but there are no plans i'm aware of for a seperate forum. There really aren't that many 1/6 people here, and there are lots of military forums for 1/6 collectors. We have members who are also model builders who come here to discuss 32x and the like and visit modeling forums for modelling discussion. Should another seperate board be created just for them to save them the extra click?
There are also 6 inch (1/12 scale) figure collectors..information about them is usually put in 'off topic'...although the odd post is tolerated in the 1/18 board.
Bottom line the original intent and the continuing purpose of these boards is for military collectors in 1/18 scale and 1/32 and smaller. Everything else is off topic.
1/18 and 1/16 are fairly close, so 1/16 discussion is fine......but 1/6 is getting fairly off topic from the purposes of these forums. That's the way it is until i get orders to the contrary.

I realize that this thread is rapidly getting off track from the Toy Fair coverage, but I just wanted to post my thoughts as a die hard 1/6th guy. This is the last place I come looking for 1/6th information simply because there are so many other choices out there. People get attached to certain boards and if you think that by opening up a 1/6th area here that you'll draw in all the great stuff you can find there you'll probably be dissapointed. As mentioned before, 1/6th discussions are tolerated here but why would you want to talk about something that only a few members of this board are really into when you can go to a place entirely devoted to the subject? I think this board is fine just the way it is. If you want to see some real 1/6th WWII talent in an environment where all the petty BS that goes on in this hobby isn't tolerated then I suggest you check out the Sixth Army Group here: http://www.sixtharmygroup.com/portal/index.php

On the Old GP Forum, the 1:18 section was labeled for discussions on scales 1:18 and larger, so it included 1:6 items. The 1:32 section was labeled for scales 1:32 and smaller, so all those scales could be discussed. It would seem that P-51 has implied that fact in these new forums as discussions about various 1:6 and larger items have not been censored when they popped up in the 1:18 forum from time to time.
Afterall, there is much discussion about not only 1:32 products on this board's 1:32 forum, but on all smaller scales as well. I would say that you 1:6 fans can discuss all the stuff you want here on this particular forum and that it is up to P-51's discretion as whether or not to make a new forum based on the amount of posts pretaining to 1:6 scale topics.

"If you fail to plan, you plan to fail."
I was also moderator on the old GP forum and he gave me express instructions that 1/6 conversation be kept to a minimum; for the reasons that have already been stated...there are lots of 1/6 forums and he had no interest in creating another.
If there was any 'and larger' on the old GP forum headline (and i don't remember it) it was for 1/16 and maybe a bit of 1/12 type stuff, but 1/6 was definitely considered off topic.
Anyway, we have a poll now.....let's get this thead back on topic if we can..

I was wondering about the 21C booth at the Toy Fair:
If 21C has a deal with Wallyworld to retail their products, why have the booth at all. The booth was slick and well staffed with informative and professional staff but WHY??
21C sells through Wally and a handfull of etailers. Throw in a few big retail stores who carry a very few selected items. So why have the both at a show which only the "trade" are alowed to attend (a few of us 21C fans who are either small etailers or just sneak in under false pretenses like me don't really count).
I can understand shows like the shows that cater to fans of our toys and dollies but why a sizeable investment in a show where big retailers attend and because of Wally, they can't place any sizeable orders for product??
Am I missing something?

New direction from 21C?
My local Hobbytown USA store manager went to the NY Toy Show and showed me some new brochures he picked up at the 21C booth. The Avenger is on the cover and 21C admits it is the largest and most anticipated aircraft in their history.
The brochure says about the Avenger, "21C designers have engineered dozens of features to please discriminating collectors. The level of detail sets new standards and the many operating features make this an aviation enthusiast's must-have."
21C is also promoting the "AVIATION LEGENDS" collection which will start with a higher level of detail and accuracy. These will come with ground crew and look alike pilot. The first release will be Pappy Boyington's Corsair available at specialty hobbyshops and online retailers.
Sounds to me 21C really does want the collector market. TKO, any thoughts?

CAN'T WAIT!
The Avenger description keeps getting better and better! I believe that it'll be well worth the wait!
Being a naval aviation enthusiast, I can really only speak on the navy stuff, but it sure looks like 21C is considering the collector market with the paint accuracy we're seeing in recent repaints. The Kepford re-release and the new Bunker Hill Corsair are well thought out repaints. It seems to me that the other AAF and German aircraft repaints are similarly well researched.
BBI sure did a great job and combining great detail and well-researched paint and markings on it's Agaki Pearl Harbor Zero.
I think that probably the manufacturers intent is to provide historical detail for the collectors (us), combined with simple store-appeal for the kids. And trying to keep these at an affordable level. They seem to be doing a good job.
BTW, I wonder if the new competition is somewhat driving the extra detail and quality of the 21C Avenger?? While we've had to wait, I think the TBM may be a sign of the quality to come!

Without a doubt! The Avenger is built with the future in mind. The bottom line is fans have all become much more critical and demanding for detail and accuracy.
1:18 scale molds are very very expensive. The only way to see return on the investment is to build it to last... which means detail, accuracy, various model modification for differnt types... and paint schemes.
Look at the construction quality, detail, and future expansion in the latest releases... F-104 Starfighter both C & G types, The Me-109G-6, the new Mustang and the new avenger! Even the new Zeros and Macchi's in 1/32 boast an accurate model quality never before seen. Keep in mind that most projects are very labor intensive and it takes time to fit them into product plans.
The products that are launching now are over a year old or more. Kinda makes you wonder what the F-86 and Mig-15 look like! Being that the Avenger is a few years old now!... I think 21st is almost ready to lift the curtain on the F-86 and perhaps even the Mig production samples. I think people will really be impressed when they see what the future might look like based on these specimen. For now both of these aircraft have been literally a BLACK project for 21st. For obvious reasons.
a little under a year ago I had a rare opportunity to examine the F-86 prototype. I was not allowed to photograph it and it was only out of the "vault" for all of 5 minutes. It was still an early version, but man was it neat!
As for shows....
The fact of the matter is that Toy Fair used to be the BIG event for the indstry. From a fan perspective shows like Comic Con and iHobby will become bigger events. I think fans can expect to see more of a focus on those types of shows in the future.
