$60 is pretty steep for a repaint so I'll pass for ordering online. If I find one at one of my local Walmarts I might pick one up. But I aint in no hurry. Hopefully down the road BBI may consider doing a repaint of their magnificent Corsair.

They dissappeared in my area very quickly
I found 2 Bunker Hill Corsairs (and two tropical Stukas) last Thursday, then checked back this past Tuesday and Wednesday and they were gone! Thats about the fastest I've ever seen a 1:18 scale airplane move in my area. The S1 ME-019Gs, P-47s, FW-190s, armored vehicles, as well as the 32x stuff tend to just sit around at Wal Mart, as doe the items at Hobbytown. Interesting...

MightyMustang wrote:After looking at the photos of the Bunker Hill Corsair for the 4th time it seems on the Area-21 website, I'm gonna have to buy it. That is when 21st gets around to releasing it. I like the fact that it represents an actual Corsair and not just a made up paint scheme. So I've changed my mind and am going to purchase one. Theres alot of history behind this particular Corsair done by 21st and thats what I like.
Now I wait for its release.

Well, I guess you'll just have to "wait & see"MightyMustang wrote:Hopefully down the road BBI may consider doing a repaint of their magnificent Corsair.

What's funny is we are so desperate for product from bbi we are even hoping they "consider" repaints.

Couldn't tough it out!
Okay, I give! I couldn't be patient and wait for the Bunker Hill Corsair to arrive at one of our local WM's - if ever!
Thank you, BadCat, for being there when I really needed
a fix for my withdrawal suffering! I've got one on the way now!

Thanks to JimBob, I have posted profiles of the Bunker Hill Corsair in the Profile Album. I didn't know the yellow cowl ring was used for a raid on Tokyo! You learn something everyday. Thanks JimBob!

Got Mine!
Got mine today
Sure is a beauty! IMHO, this version of the Corsair is the best of of the 21C yet! Along with the Kepford Corsair, these are the most historically correct of all.
In honor of the "up-arrow" markings from the Bunker Hill, I added a scan on the Reference forum showing all the Pacific theater Navy aircraft codes by carrier.
Check it out, it sure is a curious assortment of markings!

[quote="STUKA"]I'm soon to get the BBI corsair!!
besides the obvious what is the main difference between the bunkerhill and BBI that has BBI as everyone's favorites -
if the Bunkerhill is just as nice I may get one as well - even though I have no space!!!
[/quo
Whats the difference? First is the BBI cockpit. It has loads of detail that was on the real aircraft. Second is the movable flaps which can be troublesome. Plus BBI added a few other things that make their Corsair simply the best made so far in my opinion. The 21st Corsair is nice especially the Bunker Hill version but its an old mold that 21st has no plans for retooling in the near future from what I was told. If I were a big Corsair lover (which I am) I would go with BBI but you cant miss on either one because they are both good but BBI is much better.

Pilot
I just noticed that the pilot for my VF-84 -Bunker Hill- Corsair had VF-17 stenciled on his Mae West.
Must be that Lt Cdr Hedrick was wearing his old Mae West for old times sake

no contest
In a direct, side by side comparison between the Kepford (21C) Corsair and the 'Marine Dream', BBI model, the clear winner is defenitely BBI's. It's simply no contest in my book!

Last night I took my Bunker Hill Corsair out of its box, put it together and was very impressed by how 21st got the markings of Maj Hedricks plane right on the mark! Next to the Kepford re-issue its the most accurate Corsair on the market paint scheme wise. I compared it to BBI's Corsair and there was no comparison, BBI detail wise has 21st beat hands down when it comes to the Corsair.
Then again I considered 21st didnt update the Corsair mold and thats ok by me because at least they did an accurate paint scheme and being a very good modeler I can do my own updating on the Bunker Hill Corsair myself as I did with my Thunderbolt and BBI Mustang.
Out of all the 21st Corsair releases they have come out with Bunker Hill is my favorite even surpassing BBI's Corsair version. Why? Because of the paint scheme alone. I just love it and am very happy to have it.

Paint scheme
I'll have to agree with MightyMustang. I have a BBI Corsair, and while it's detail is superb, the chosen paint scheme is of a modern airshow bird, not a historical example. I'm sure it'll sell well and most of the target audience won't mind (Heck, I bought one and like it).
The Kepford and now the VF-84 21C birds are less detailed in the tooling but very accurately painted. To me, these two are for us folks (like most or all on this forum) who appreciate good representation of history. While the 21C versions are not as detailed, I believe that they have some better aspects: like the main and tail gear -and tires- look much better than the BBI. These two 21C birds are by far my Corsair favorites.
BBI has done a great job with historical accuracy recently with the Pearl Harbor Zero - that one was a fantastic combination of detail AND historical accuracy!

So, what about taking a BBI Corsair airframe and re-painting it in an historically correct scheme? That would be a great project to do.

Re: Paint scheme
But corgi have a 1:72 corsair with the same paint scheme (except a few decals) . Or is it the decals that ruins the whole scheme?JimBob55 wrote:I'll have to agree with MightyMustang. The decals on the BBI Corsair dont ruin it, in fact its a nice job. However I think what bothers most collectors about BBI's Corsair is that it represents an air show bird and not an historical Corsair. Me? I'm a history buff and I like my planes to portray a plane that was part of the war it fought in. Thats why my BBI Corsair is being re-done.

But some custom decals could make it historically accurate just like the custom swastikas for the 21stc planesMightyMustang wrote:The decals on the BBI Corsair dont ruin it, in fact its a nice job.
