I have a question about the different series of Marines? Does anyone have figures of all three side by side, or can take some? I was in Wal-mart today, picked some up. I notice that some don't have all the gear that they came with from the start. Mainly the Japanese flag and smokes in the hand. I didn't notice and color difference in the two green uniforms. I was wondering if the newer series 3 as some say, are on the same card as the camo version series 2? If this has be cover before, please derect me and delete this post. Thanks for any help.
While I can't offer you any photos I can confirm that the smoke and flag hands are gone from wave 3 (P.C. Police and Chinese Objection I'm guessing). Wave 2 has different card art on the Japanese (that replaces the Rising Sun Flag with an anchor and omits "Japanese"), not sure about the Wave 3 Marines though it's likely changed on the back to reflect the changes to the Japanese wave 2 art, etc.
Was that the reason why 21st stopped producing the IJA marines?

I don't think so. As with everything else, they had their single run of them and that was it. I don't think PC had anything to do with it. Once the run was done, the changes were made.demonclaw wrote:Was that the reason why 21st stopped producing the IJA marines?centone wrote:While I can't offer you any photos I can confirm that the smoke and flag hands are gone from wave 3 (P.C. Seem like a waste just to create a 6 figure set just to have them out for a couple of months . And its kind of unlogical too since there arent any other japanese in the pacific serie now . Thats like making the battle of the bulge serie and then cancel the production of the germans .
But what other figure sets have 21stc had limited production off?

whoa...
OK, already things are getting confused.
I have all 3 series of Marines, and they all come on green cards. In the middle of wave 2 Digger's flag hand was swapped out. For whatever reason, this was a good thing. He was an army builder troop and having a flag made him limited. (Side note: the extra hand in with one of the Japs was really for Digger imo).
Another notable change in the later series of USMC are the paint on the weapons: some of your guns will have wood barrels and metal grips
As for the Japanese, I don't think we should say IJA "Marines" - first were the IJA guys, then the Marines. Without getting into why the Marines lost any and all reference to Japan, the only figure that it affected was the machine gunner who wound up with a white bandana instead of rising sun.
Don't know what that clears up but demon trust me this is not a "limited" series and is not the last you saw of Japanese figures. Don't confuse "single run" with limited. The Vietnam figures could be looked at similarly - they came and went but were not "limited" by any means. In fact they sat on shelves at clearance for months....

digger,
Would you have some picture. I know they are all on the green card, but if you look at the picture of the figure on the left top and on the back, the first series had the Japanese on the back and I think the last two series have the camo in the left front and both sets of US Marines on the back, right? I guess I'm looking for exactly what has be replaced and what the differences are in the color of the first series vs the third series? I didn't see any color differences if they were third series that I saw. Thanks for the help.

I hope that answers your question. And don't put too much into what the back shows - you will see Digger has a carbine in one pic and he doesn't come with one in any series.
