Playing with 21st Pzkw IV electrical system

Post by krieglok » Fri Feb 03, 2006 2:55 pm

I was doing some work on my RC Pzkw IV when I thought I would try a quick attempt to tame the tank`s "warp speed" qualities. I simply jumped out the first two battery slots with jumper wires in place of the batteries themselves. This reduced the number of batteries and the output voltage. The tank drove at a more realistic speed, but it still turns quickly. It probably has to do with how the circut board is wired. I may end up picking up one on clearance at WM to continue my evil experiments. I will keep you posted...

That sounds like some interesting work. Wish I had some electrical skills... Do keep us posted!

Do you jump + to -; or + to + etc.
Thanks, sorry not very electrically inclined.

+to- .Open up the battery box and install all but two of the batteries. This leaves two slots open. Take a decent gauge wire (I used speaker wire) and strip the ends about 1/2 inch The entire wire should be at least 1 1/2 inches longer than the battery it is replacing. Twist the wire if you are using stranded wire and loop it to make a horse shoe shape with the bare ends. Now, take a small flat blade screw driver or exacto knife and insert it behind the metal plate where the end of the battery would touch and gently pry it to create a gap just wide enough to slip the wire between the metal and the plastic box side. Insert the wire and pull the screw driver or blade out and the wire should end up being clamped between the two surfaces. Place the other end of the wire at the opposite terminal (where the other end of the battery would be) and insert the same way. Repeat the deal for the other remaining slot. The idea is that you are replacing each battery with a section of wire. The batteries complete the circut to the motor that is why the tank will not run if you leave a battery out of the box with nothing to carry the electricity across. The wire acts just like the battery but with out adding the 1.5 volts the single battery would supply. You end up reducing the voltage to the motor by 3 volts by eliminating two 1.5 volt batteries. I tried using two dead batteries at first, but they cause to much resistance for the rest of the batteries to push juice through. It may be an option to further reduce the numbers of batteries to reduce the motor speed, but I have not tried that yet.

I'll even trade for a German drivers.

Has anyone been able to do anything about the terrible engine sound, such as reprogram it? The gunfire sound is decent but the engine sound is pitiful. I removed the goofy up/down gun elevation piece and love the turret movement sound. It aint perfect, but I'm happy so far.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep the tank from jumping back when the main gun is fired. My panzer jumps back almost 5". I'd like to remove the up/down gun piece as well. As for the engine sound guess thats what we get for $50

The oscillating main gun thing is easily removed. I simply glued a 1/16th piece on the face of the turret just below the main gun to keep it from drooping past level. As for the recoil jump? I try not to push the button. :?
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. No use being a damn fool about it.

I just popped out the three screws that connect the bottom half to the top and then removed the round plastic piece that makes the gun go up and down. I intend to take a look in the near future about what I can do to 1. reduce if not eliminate the ridiculous "jump back" when you fire and 2. improve the engine sounds.
