21C Long Lost Avenger
resources
I collect photos online and I can't quite relocate the source for that particular one. However, here is a great carrier resource:
http://www.navsource.org/archives/02/features.htm
Follow the links to the escort carriers, the Bogue, then the Macintosh photo collection and there is a different photo of the same crash: http://www.navsource.org/archives/03/cve-9/009.htm
<img src="http://img466.imageshack.us/img466/7636/tbmcrash9rg.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" />
Here's another link to a U-boat archive which has some great TBM and sub attack photos. I posted this one a while ago: http://www.uboatarchive.net/Uboatlist.htm
I'll keep looking for the other photo. I've come across a few dead links which may be where that one came from. I found that one about a year and a half ago.

Another paint scheme
I know I'm putting the cart before the horse, as the Avenger has not been released yet, but here's another idea for a historic aircraft paint scheme: the sole TBF survivor of the Midway battle.

The three versions that we are expecting are great, this one will complement the first three and yet represent the earliest combat experience for the Avenger.

Yep, thats another .30 cal machine gun operated by the radio operator/bombadier. It has been included on the 21c Avenger, at least according to the prototypes we've seen. The Avenger had 1-2 forward firing .50" MGs, the .50" MG in the turret and the other .30" MG in the ventral position.MG-42 wrote:What is that "prickly" thing,.. sticking out from underneath the fuselage,..near the tails, resting / landing gear ? .....another MG ?

Nice
Pacific colors seem the most beautiful to me. That Avenger is just one gorgeous beast of an airplane, but when??
Thanks for the nice pictures JimBob.

Avengers Unite!
Personally, I like them all. I was recently at the Cavanaugh Museum in Addison, TX. Here's a pic of their TBM in late war all-blue.

I can't get over walking under the chin of the cowling without bumping my head or stooping...and I'm 6'1" tall. Without people in the frame, it's difficult to see just how huge this plane is....and how beautiful to see her fly....almost graceful!

I'm really looking forward to hearing from our advance scouts from Toyfair! Hope to see the 21C Avenger almost ready to go!

I photographed this TBM-3 on the Yorktown in Charleston SC on vacation last summer. It sure was great to get to walk around and examine this beast up close

There was also a F4U-1D Corsair, Hellcat, Wildcat, and Dauntless, among others. It was a great visit!!

Hey if any one go's to the NY Toy fair next week they should stop by the Intrepid Air and Space museum its on the Intrepid AC on the hudson river a block from the Jacob Javits Center. They have an Avenger Parked on the flight deck you can walk right up to it.

I don't remember if anyone mentioned this or not, does anyone know for sure how many figs come with the new Avenger? An online retailer lists the Avenger having 1/18 figures. I assume it's more than one.

Re: xd
I believe it is coming with 2 figures. A 3rd is impractical.....kevrut wrote:I don't remember if anyone mentioned this or not, does anyone know for sure how many figs come with the new Avenger? An online retailer lists the Avenger having 1/18 figures. I assume it's more than one.

third crewman
On a previous thread not long ago, it was said that a third crewmember (radioman) would be almost impossible to accomodate inside the tight space.
I wish 21C would sell the smaller P-51 pilot by itself. With a few mods, it may turned out to be just the right size for a bombardier/ radioman position. That is of course, if T-man approves of it first!

What? What did I object to in the past?eddie372 wrote:That is of course, if T-man approves of it first!

Sure! I approve of the 3rd Avenger crewman, but I'd prefer the full size figure to keep up the uniformity

I disagree, as I have seen many a palette of to-be-stocked merchandise sitting in the aisle at Wal-mart. However, your argument still has merit because the palettes are usuallly a mish-mash of every conceivable thing all thrown on there and held together tenously with stretch wrap!KAMIKAZE wrote:Box size is a load of crap. Walmart doesn't "palatize" anything. Everything arrives at the store on the floor of the trailer.

Um, the box I saw in the back had 3 crew members! Also I think I should note a very very very cool little piece of info.
NOBODY outside of 21st staff have seen the REAL production version of the Avenger! The ones shown at Toy Fair are Generation II molds. The final III series is much more refined. The wings are much improved for some excellent durability. There is something else I know. But I can't tell. Just trust me! There are some very specific reasons why this project went through 3 phases of refinement.
The final product is not going to let you down. As for Aliens... Don't stress. They are a good thing! ... an extra thing that they didn't have to do! I am almost 99% certain that flight 19 comes with complete crew! + the umpa loompas. which makes it a nice special edition release.
