1/72 Figures... I'm Just Not Familiar

Hey everyone,

As a kid I used to buy boxes of 1/72 plastic figures at the local hobby shop to paint, and honestly I just never got to painting the vast majority of what I ever bought... Well the other day while cleaning I found a box of these from Revell but also there's some vehicles (Schwimmwaggens, Tiger's, and Shermans) from ANOTHER 1/72 scale line. These were in a "kit" that was a game more or less. One was like Normandy, I had an Attack Stallingrad one too as I recall but the ones I have now are Normandy... I had an Iwo Jima set. I got them at like KB Toys when I was young and they were on sale... They were big sets, had a lot of both sides, and they had figures dedicated to the vehicles, like they had BMW bikes with sidecars and there was a rider and a guy in the sidecar, and there were 4 guys in a Schwimmwagen, etc... Oh and there's a piece of German armor I'm unfamiliar with but it looks like the "thing" the guys escaped in in the Dirty Dozen film if you're familiar with that, haha... Yeah big help, but the more obscure armor gets the less I know about it.

Anyway, I've got a shoebox of stuff, and I just wondered what the deal is with this stuff? Does anyone remember anything I'm mentioning? Is there much market to sell this in as well? I would like to unload the items to someone who actually would appreciate them.

The thing they escaped in at the end of Dirty Dozen was a sdkfz 7 8 ton prime mover. They were used as troop transports and also towed big guns (Most notably the Flak 18/36).

Jesse,

It sounds like a kettenkraftrad that was missing the motorcycle type front wheel. These were made by a company called Atlantic. I had a few of the "game" army sets myself. Fun stuff.

Sounds like Atlantic all right. The battle sets were a lot of fun. I had Cassino, the Bulge, Stalingrad and El Alamein. The giant Kettenkrad was my favorite if only because the miniature was really cool. The giant flakvierling that went with it I called a quad 88!

Hi Jesse James,

These playsets ARE either Atlantic or ESCI. Both were out in the 80's.

The ESCI sets included vacuform diorama/terrain pieces with soft plastic 1:72 scale figures and usually 2 hard plastic 1:72 model kits.

The Atlantic sets (some being produced now under the name NEXUS) were closer to thier labeled HO/oo scale (1:87) and sometimes the vehicles were way out of scale for the figures. The vehicles were also "soft plastic" model kits - NOT hard plastic like the ESCI models.
