Does the Tiger's and Panther's engine cover open?
Thanks
Does the Tiger's and Panther's engine cover open?
yes & no
The Tiger has engine access, the Panther has opening deck but no engine in there. The Tiger has a ton of working hatches and moving parts - you will not regret buying it I am sure (even at full price).
I stuck 1:18 import car engine in one of my Panthers - very crude and obviously not accurate but the space just doesn't work as a storage compartment.

I love the Tiger - You can pull off the turret - carefully -
and place all five crew members in their respected spot.
The hatches tend to break easy and the machine gun mount is easy to snap -
Does anyone have pictures of a tiger inside - I want to see how the shells are placed and if I need to add storage for the shells - the inside of the panther has one spent shell glued at the breech and shows others stored on each side but I think the tiger had room for 62- or 60 something rounds.

The Panther's turret does not come off like the Tiger. The Panther (as with the Sherman) is one of 21c's origional 1:18 tanks and has no interior. The XD M-41 is the only other 1:18 tank with a removable turret. I agree that it is one of the best functions of this tank and allows for alot of playability. Its a great shame that 21c didn't include an interior on their Panzer IV, which could have been easily done!
To answer the other question, the shells inside the Tiger were stored alongside the turret, in pretty much the same place as they are on the 21c version. You can see them in this picture of an Academy model of an early production Tiger tank. More shells could be added to the 21c version, however!

Build-a-Rama is the only place (that I know of) which makes the tank shells. They make some of the best 1:18 (and 1:32) dio accessories overall. I've used the 1:18 shells in my Tiger (a crewman in the turret holds one) and in my M-41 (where they are fixed to their proper stowage area) and the shells look good. Although a little pricey, the quality is excellent. I highly recommend the 1:18 ammo boxes, crates, fuel cans, and stowage accessories. I've put down alot of cash over the years to outfit my 1:18 vehicles with their accessories
