I picked up a Hen Long M26 Persing at a garage sale for $10. It was all there and working. I decided to add some details like the periscope guards and rework some of the details that were there already. I repainted the tank, then decaled it for a 2nd Division tank. With some weathering the result can be seen below. Some day I will get around to lengthening the barrel to the correct length...

Isn't that Hen Long M26 1/16 scale. Great job painting and detail.

Thanks. Yes it is the Hen Long in 1:16th scale. It does run pretty well actually. I was surprised. It beats the 21st Pzkw IV hands down as far as RC running qualities.

I got a Hen Long Pershing with smoke and sound for New Year, and I love it, runs great, and climb over almost anything

After reading this thread I picked up this tank and am very happy with it.

A few minor problems like the AA .50 cal with the ammo box in the wrong place on the gun, but hey, thats what exacto is for, and the half a guy keeps poping out of the tank when I hit stuff.

My question is, how long does this tank battery operate and what is the time for this battery to re-charge?

I charged the battery and it started to slow up after about a half hour of operation. Is that standard??

I picked the Pershing because it being 1/16, it doesn't overshadow my 21C Tiger, Sherman or Panther. With the Pershing we don't have a 1/18 to match it against.

Opinions, please

I have been tempted to get both the Pershing and the T-34/85 r/c (that is based on the Trumpeter kit). The one thing that has discouraged me is the 1/16 scale. I know they will both look way too large beside my 1/18 tanks....and certainly way large if they were compared to a 1/18 T-34 or Pershing.

However, something i have noticed in my years of collecting is that, if there is nothing around for comparison, it is very difficult to tell if something is 1/18 or not. I've been fooled many times in stores, toy shows etc by an object that i thought, just by looking at it, was 1/18 only to find that in fact it was a much larger or much smaller scale, once i measured it or compared it to something known to be 1/18.

Because of this i've decided to get the 1/16 r/c T-34 (they are starting to get reasonable in price). I'm going to display it off on it's own (being engaged by a German anti tank gun i'm going to scratch build

). If i don't display any figures with it and since there will be no other vehicles near by, it will be very hard to tell that it is a bit oversized. If i just plunked it on my shelf with my other tanks it would be pretty obviously too big.....at nearly the size of the Patton.

I still hope and believe that we will have a proper 1/18 T-34 some day, that i can cover with Russian tank riders but in the meantime this will satisfy my 5+ year long desire for a T-34 in my collection.

I guess i'm starting to mellow in my old age (or just get fed up) and starting to compromise somewhat, as i've got a few 1/20 scale aircraft now plus my Great Planes DC-3 (with the 1/19 wings and 1/21 fuselage).

but they're so fun....sigh.

I could not agree more with both points. A T-34 is just so overdue, after the Sherman I don't think there is one tank that defined the war more. It just has to be done.

I too have either mellowed (or gotten fed up, likely gotten fed up) and am more prone to compromise, or even buy other scales altogether if it suits me. There just isn't enough of a 1:18 military vehicle supply to sustain a hobby.

Hi TTT. I once had a Tyco racecar that used the same voltage battery pack as the 1:24 Hen Long tank I have. The charging time for the battery packs like this and on the Pershing should be around 4 hours. This is using the Tyco info as the HL instructions does not tell you how long to charge the pack. This may explain your short running time. I hardly run my tanks to the point of total exhaustion, but I would guess 45 to 60 minutes should be about right, depending on the battlefield surface.

The size of the Pershing is not so noticable next to the Shermans ect. The M26 was a big tank, so the scale difference makes it that more stunning. I figure if I stay with in the scope of 1:18 to 1:16, it is the same as collecting 1:35 to 1:32. There is a difference, but it isnt a big deal. Now my 1:24th M1 Abrams(Franklin Mint)Cat. Bulldozer(WW2,NGZ) and Henlong Japanese MBT are all out of place and they end up being the "redheaded step children" of the collection...

I went with the Pershing because it was a large tank. It was classified as a heavy tank and I didn't figure 21C or BBI will ever get to the point of making one in 1/18.

I would like a T-34 but I feel sure 21C or BBI will get around to making one in 1/18. As Digger says, the T-34 was a very important tank and did influence tank design in WW2.

The Pershing will stand alone as a heavy tank with my 1/18 vehicles and maybe a few of my 1/16 trucks.

If nobody makes a T-34 by next year, I'll probably step up a couple of scales and get a 1/6 T-34, but I have three 1/6 projects on the shelf and in process, before a T-34 comes to this bunker, that is assuming somebody doesn't cone out with the White half-track in 1/6 this year, and then all plans are in the crapper.

I was thinking of getting Tamiya's R/C M-26,...but I could'nt pass,...on the "deal" I got with their King Tiger,...It's a custom job,..complete w/all metal road wheels ,..tracks and gun barrel. I love it even though they are pricey. That's why I did'nt get the Pershing,..just having the one was enough,...as far as $$,....but man,

...I would like to see a 1/6 "T-34",..and "WHAT A MONSTER" this thing would be. Who's got it ? and how much is it ? ....I'm also interested in the "HENLONG" M-26,...Would appreciate some feed-back about these Tanks,.. please ?

The T-34 is made by a guy named James DeSimone. He makes a series of "cheap" vehicles. His vehicles are not finished models, they are made to be finished by the buyer. Plenty of accessories are available from a dozen e-tailers which you can add to the vehicles on the "dark side" of toy collecting (1/6). That includes painting of course. His site includes plenty of pics of finished vehicles, his site is:

I personally have two, the Sherman and the Opel Blitz. Neither is anywhere near finished. I'm doing the Opel now but waiting for some cammo schemes to use. I am going to mount one of the Dragon 20mm Flak 38 guns in the back of the truck. I'm collecting accessories for the Sherman. These are long term projects.

James D regularly uses e-Bay to sell his vehicles, some at his regular price and some at discounts. Nice guy to deal with.

Hey, 3T, Might I suggest a book called "Trucks of the Wehrmacht" by Reinhard Frank. It is part of the "German Vehicles in WW2" series by Schiffer Military History Publishing. You can get it from Amazon. It is a indepth photo study of German trucks that you may find interesting.
