Greetings
I've been thinking about the old days of the T-Model Ford, when "....you can have it any color you want, as long as it's black".
The only thing that is obviously clear from reading this thread is that we have different opinions. That's alright as far as I'm concerned. If you like the new Corsair paint job, go for it; if you don't or can't have it for any reason, that's alright too.
Have a very merry Christmas everyone (for those of you who celebrate it), and best wishes for a very happy and prosperous New Year, filled with good health, peace, love, and lots of new 1:18 models and figs, and that's for everyone here!
God bless you all.

After looking at the photos of the Bunker Hill Corsair for the 4th time it seems on the Area-21 website, I'm gonna have to buy it. That is when 21st gets around to releasing it. I like the fact that it represents an actual Corsair and not just a made up paint scheme. So I've changed my mind and am going to purchase one. Theres alot of history behind this particular Corsair done by 21st and thats what I like.
Now I wait for its release.

Now I wait for its release.

Well, just remember to loosen the hinge screws and dremel down the hooks on the tab and you should have little problem with the wings.....JOC wrote:Fix or redesign those damn hinges on the folding wings and the Bunker Hill will surely be a Winner.

No solid ETA yet for the Bunker Hill Corsair. What I do know is that it has just about finished prodution. So it should be very soon. I would say that the P-38 Pudgy V will release first then the Corsair, and I even think the new Afrika Stuka will release about the same time as the Bunker Hill. Between 2 mustangs, 1 Corsair, 1 Lightning, and 1 stuka It looks like 5 new aircraft comming our way quickly! It's going to be a fun start to the year.

Thanks tko for the update. I know I said I wasnt going to buy another F4U but this one I cant pass on because like I said I love the paint scheme. Bunker Hill Corsairs seem to be very popular with Aviation artists being that I have seen numerous paintings depicting Bunker Hills Corsairs especially Corsair 167 which for those who dont know was flown by former VF-17 Ace Rodger Hedrick. So kudos go out to 21st for coming out with this F4U and I really look forward to it, hopefully we shall see it very soon.

Cool
I saw this thread

and it appears the new 21C Corsair might be the perfect adversary for the bbi Green Zero. Not sure if they went head to head but it sure seems possible considering the time and location. I always like it when there are historically accurate match-ups with the planes or figures.
If anyone knows for sure that info would be much appreciated.

Hey tko,
Are you gonna do any more in depth reviews of the new tool Mustang? I pre-ordered "Petie The 2nd" but I would like to get an idea of what the cockpit looks like and so fourth. I liked your photos of "Petie" on your Area 51 site so I would like to see a little more. Let me know.

hmmm....isn't the BBI Zero an A6M2? Kinda weird to have a A6M2 still flying at the time of the Bunker Hill Corsair. If it's an A6M5....
I am working on an article for the new Mustangs as we speak. 21st is in the process of providing me with final production photos of the "Ridge Runner" P-51D Mustang.
Be on the look out for an update with in-depth coverage of the P-51 very soon.
Bunker Hill and new Stuka will also have some development follow up very soon!

Well, no folding wings anyway so it is not 100% anything really. If you look at the Mariannas paint scheme on the Green Zero it is the practical counterpart of the White Corsair, no?GooglyDoogly wrote:hmmm....isn't the BBI Zero an A6M2? But now that I look at those rockets you wonder why bbi did not release THIS scheme instead of the airshow Corsair. The bbi Corsair would have been perfect as 167 and it would have been the perfect match-up for the green zero. Makes you wonder.

Corsair vs. Zero
Ski, yes, feel free to add the photo to the album. I'm afraid that I can't remember where I located it, though. If you look close enough, I think the aircraft number is 168--one off from Hedrick's 167.
In the Squadron book on the Zero, there is a 1945 photograph of the 302nd Kokutai at Atsugi showing aircraft of the Home Defense. In the group of aircraft are several A6M2's in a variety of green paint like the BBI a/c. Apparently the older A6M2's were still in use to the end of the war. I've also read that carrier-based A6M2's were used as fighter-bombers at the same time that the A6M5's were the primary IJN fighters in mid-1944.
So, A6M2 Zero's would've certainly gone up against the Bunker Hill Corsairs, particularly on raids to Japan itself. The yellow cowl on the 21C Bunker Hill Corsair signified US aircraft involved with raids on the Japanese home islands in 1945.

Here's another great shot of the Bunker Hill deck with Corsairs, Hellcats, and Avengers (and Helldivers at the back):

I found two of the Bunker Hill Corsairs, along with two of the new tropical cammo Stukas at a Wal Mart in Fresno, California! The Corsair looks pretty good, and has all the warning labels, etc. The Exhaust pipes on the underside are unpainted, though. Still, just thought I'd let you guys know they're out!!
