Re: 21 inch R/C PBR Patrol Boat
Wow
If I do my scale calculations more-or-less correctly, the ProBoat PBR is very close to 1/18 scale. In actuality, the PBRs were about 32 feet long and that calculates out to about 21.33 inches when brought down to 1/18 scale - and the product description says the model is 21 inches long. It isn't cheap, but ProBoat makes a good product from what I'm told... I may have to jump on this!

That looks amazing. Great find.

Looks good! With some painting and weathering this would be a pretty cool piece.

They sell the hull/deck for $116.99 and the canopy for $19.94. Why not the whole boat with all the guns, tires and other acc. without the motors etc. for $150.00? I'd be in for that. Bob

I used the store locater and it said my local Hobby Town was an authorized retailer.

Well, I tried my local Hobby Town, and they said they didn't plan on getting any in store, only online. I ordered mine directly from Horizon Hobby. $229.99 after using their promo code. Now I just need to shop for the battery. They sold out fast, so mine is backordered. I'll get some pics up whenever it comes in. I don't have any Vietnam figures, just Joes. I need to find figs with green fatigues and either the plain helmets or black berets. I could customize a couple here and there.

Re: 21 inch R/C PBR Patrol Boat
My Hobbytown deals with ProBoat, so they've ordered one for me for the $230 price... Mine is also back ordered, but hopefully will arrive before too long. I've got a lot of the 21c second-series Vietnam figures (Platoon, etc) that I may use. My other alternative will be some of the first-series 21c Vietnam tanker and driver figures. A lot of the photos of PBRs in action seem to show the crew just wearing the helmets and flak vests, so those could be good figures too. I'm in no rush for it, but this will be a fun model when it does arrivezodiacflash wrote:Well, I tried my local Hobby Town, and they said they didn't plan on getting any in store, only online. Re: 21 inch R/C PBR Patrol Boat
Mine made it in yesterday. Sorry, no pics yet. It was a very busy evening for me. I'll get a few pics up later. In the meantime, I did open it to check that nothing got messed up during shipment, and I can say I'm very pleased with it. It looks great and seems to be very well made. The website says assembly time is less than one hour. Trust me, if you have a battery charged and ready to install, you'll be making waves in less than half an hour. This thing is ready to go in the box. All the lights and the radome mast with its support lines are already installed. The two antennas in the front need to be put in place; just push them down into the holes. Simple. The flag seems to be pretty well made. You peel the backing off and fold it on the post. However, I'm going to save that flag and try something else because I think it's a bit large. The guns are green, and only the barrels are black, but that's an easy fix with some model paint. Also, I need to get some feed chutes for the .50's in the front turret. I haven't put the stand together yet. I want to buy the recommended glue. Like I said, absolutely no complaints. It's awesome and I'm really excited about having something in my collection that looks nice on display, and can get out running and gunning on the water.

Great to hear!
I ordered mine through my local Hobbytown USA store, so hopefully it comes sometime soon. I've not gotten any confirmation from them yet and they're usually pretty good about that...

Re: 21 inch R/C PBR Patrol Boat
Nice find Duke, thanks for posting. This looks very cool. I have a creek in my yard and everything is starting to turn green so "patrolling" the river would be super fun over the summer..
It's a great model to start with and has lots of areas to update if you enjoy that. I can see swapping out the guns for some more accurate 21C or BBI versions and changing the tarp out for real canvas.
What else could be done to make it more realistic or more in line with Apocalypse Now?

That's funny so do I. I could see turning this model into some kind of WWII Kriegsmarine coastal patrol boat.

Looks like someone has already done a bit of Apocalypse Now work on theirs.

Re: 21 inch R/C PBR Patrol Boat
Actually, I think the finished one above is a Tamiya kit in 1/35. It looks like the boat might be a direct upscale of what would appear to be a really well done Tamiya kit.

Re: 21 inch R/C PBR Patrol Boat
Mine just arrived. It was back-ordered at Horizon Hobby but I tried it anyway in order to use the coupon tip from Zodiac. It worked and it looks to be really warm this weekend so hopefully I can get a test run in the creek, ahem, river!

Re: 21 inch R/C PBR Patrol Boat
I'm still waiting for mine to come in via my local Hobbytown. They said it should be coming anytime, but Horizon was still showing a backorder for May 2017. I'm not in a rush, but am eager to get it.

Re: 21 inch R/C PBR Patrol Boat
I would like to have this kit but I don't care about the RC motor and stuff. they should release a display model. I would like to see some pictures of the boat with some 1/18th vietnam figures....t
