Oh, cool. I own a couple of those firearms - an M1 Carbine and an M1911 pistol. Both are fantastic and fun to shoot :D

But I can see why some of those weapons were phased out... The Carbine is basically a glorified handgun and has an effective range of around 100 yards. Its good for close quarters, but not anything further afield. The M1911 has excellent stopping power with its heavy .45 caliber round, but it is a PAIN to field strip and clean, particularly removing and installing the buffer spring. A .45 Glock is so much easier to use!

I'm surprised they didn't mention the M1 Garand along with the BAR... I've seen custom "tactical" Garands that dispense with the classic wooden stock and put the receiver and barrel in a synthetic tactical stock with pistol grip... But then the M14/M1A is still in use and that's basically an improved Garand that is easier to load with its box magazine.
