Custom 21c XD Vietnam-era M-113A1

Post by tmanthegreat » Thu Oct 29, 2015 2:10 pm

This is the continuation of a project I started last year to convert a 21c XD 1:18 scale diecast M-113A2 into a proper Vietnam-era M-113A1. I've got a few more details about this project in the Customs and Mods forum, but figured I'd share my latest efforts here in the 1:18 scale forum and include some "period" diorama photos. Enjoy :D

Nice job. I really like these APC's. Too bad no one is making 1/18 scale M113's anymore. I should have stocked up when they had the great Walmart sell off.

Great job! Wish I was collecting when these were in the stores.

Thanks for the kind comments, guys. It was Pickelhaube's turret shields that really pulled the vehicle together, and the work of other members that provided some inspiration. The 21c M-113's always seemed to be a vehicle ready-made for customization... I mean the baggage and other parts on the stock vehicle pull off easily with the holes are simple to cover over or fill in and repaint. I never understood why 21c never made a proper M-113A1 ACAV in 1:18 scale (like their excellent 32x example) instead going with the modern variant painted like a Vietnam-era vehicle. Guess it was a matter of expediency on their part...
