How many men in a standard Vietnam era platoon??

4 or 5 squads?? how many M60s??

would each squad have a radioman?

Well mate knowing how much a fan you are of Platoon & also the Nam era too,these certainly do Justice mate

The figures are Great & I mean that. Glad you got a big help on Nam M1s too.

Ahh well what a way to end 2005 though

That M60 gunner reminds me of Animal Mother from Full Metal Jacket. Nicely done on the figures.

First I am not too happy with the photos,, my camara needs new rechargable batteries, and the lighting is not right,, I really wanted you to get a feel for these customs,, they look really great up close.

The Machine gunner was a new technique, I cut the armored vest off one of the C21 Vietnam XD figures, cut and ground it out and grafted the halves to a GI joe figure which had bare arm's,, the legs are Dragon and the feet/boots C21...

I will post more pics later in the week,,

As for waiting for 2006,, these customs are all 2005,, I have been working on them for around 10-12 month's

It depends on what type of platoon are you portraying? A rifle platoon, or a weapons platoon?

Rifle platoons has 1 platoon HQ and 3 rifle squads. The platoon hq is the only one who has a radio operator. The platoon HQ also consist of the corpsmen, platoon sargeant, and sometimes, forward observers for artillery or airstrikes.

Each rifle squads has 3 fire teams with 4 men each. Each squad should have 3 automatic riflemen. What automatic weapon they carry really depends on the platoon, time frame, and availability of weapons. Some carry full-auto M-14s, some carry M-60s, some even carry BARs.

Weapons platoon carried the big guns. Weapons platoon are broken down into sections; the mortar, anti-tank, and machine gun sections. The MG section usually has 18 or so riflemen with 6 M-60s. Those 6 M-60 were divided into two-MG teams, so you'll have 3 MG teams with 2 MG each.

That's the usual organization in the Corps, but during Vietnam, take this with a grain of salt. Each company usually modify the organizations of their platoons to some degree in order to adapt a particular situation inthe battlefield. And as the war progressed, Marine platoons were often short on men, so for example, a fire team would only have two riflemen plus a automatic riflemen. The riflemen carry the extra ammo, plus protect the auto rifleman from flanking attacks.

SQUAD – Nine to 10 soldiers. Typically commanded by a sergeant or staff sergeant, a squad or section is the smallest element in Army structure, and its size is dependent on its function.

PLATOON – 16 to 44 soldiers. A platoon is led by a lieutenant with an NCO as second in command, and consists of two to four squads or sections.

I guess I need some more!!!!!!

tderespino ~ May I ask where you got those buildings in your pictures from? I know a few are 21st Century buildings, but where did the others come from? Did you build them?

I cut up 3 C21 Farm houses and use them like building blocks..

Then I stacked them or just used them as a backround for a picture.

I also have a Hayloft set and a ruined corner set.

Everything I have is for play first, display second.

Nice to see those last 3 photos again too Tomd. Got them saved on my puter already but still nice to see them online. I do love the figures you did

There not many who go for Real Military but with as much Articulation as possible. One of the main reasons i love your stuff
