Another M5 or get the M1 Abrams???? Chime in guys

Post by ww2collecter » Wed Dec 28, 2005 5:00 pm

I got the M5 for Chrstmas and worked on it all weekend. First time for me doing aything like this and it was very fun. See the pics.

Anyway my B-day is tomorrow and the wife said that WM has both the Abrams & Stuart(camo) for $140. Now she said I can get one or the other, but I'm torn.
I would like the modern, but it being 1:9 is an odd size for getting accessories/figures, and the reviews have'nt been great, but that seems resolved.
For the Stuart, I would like to have the different version, plus we all know 1:6 stuff is available. It would also give me a spare incase anything happened to the other one.
So fellas, what would you pick???????

And here is what I've done to my 1st M5 so far

As a third choice, don't get itchy to spend your money. You can wait for a while, a couple of 1/6 customizers are talking about a White Half-track for about the same money. See what they do in six months, one of the two will have one out by then.

With all the accessories that have come out for the Armor Hobbies terrific 1/6 German half-track, the mind boggles what they will bring out for all the variations of the White half-track.

Who knows, maybe 21C would blow them both away with a Half-track :)
One never knows, does one??? 8)

Can you give more details about this 1/2 track? Is it a custom job or by a company? I assume its a R/C

By the way, I fell to temptation and bought a Camo Stuart and the 1:6 scale jeep yesterday:D

I fell into the same predicament because I bought the first Stuart (full price) for my son and he didn't want me to customize it, so I waited till they put the Camo Stuart on clearance ($50) and I bought one for myself! It is a blast running both around the yard on different frequencies. The neighbors usually come out and watch because we are usually trying to climb objects in the yard! Tug of war is alot of fun too!
Wish the two 1/6 Shermans we have were R/C too, but my son loves doing battle scenes and taking digital pictures too!
Another Stuart is definately a good choice!

Definately the M-5. Especially since these little buggers go on sale from time to time. As TTT has stated there are several companies that offer improved drive gears, accessories, ect. It is very tempting to get an M-1 as they just lowered the price here to $149.00, but I think I'l press my luck and see if they lower the price again. 8)

WW2:

The German "250" half-track is a gem, it lists for around $225. It is a kit but easy to assemble. It is sold by Armor Hobbies. They have said they are considering a companion U.S. White M3 half-track. The same quality is expected and probably about the same price.

A smaller dealer (but one with a good record) is also talking about producing a generic White half-track for less and leaving the finishing to the individual to decide what model half-track it ends up as. Many dealers are expected to produce accessories for either this half-track or the AH version. There are as many guys around who would like a M3 as there are that want an M-16 with the quad .50, a mortar carrier or any one of a dozen what was made to carry artilery, anti-tank guns or AA guns.

This idea of a generic vehicle is a popular idea. James Desimone now produces a decent Sherman, T-34, Opel truck (can be either German or US) and other tanks and the Dodge 1 1/2 truck. All these vehicles are received in rough shape but are cleaned up with a Dremel and some sanding and painting. Considering that a near perfect vehicle can run up to around $1,000 or more (much more), these generic vehicles can be made to look very good for around $150. I bought a Sherman on eBay for $100 and have been collecting accessories before I start working on it. I like it so much I bought one of the JD Opel trucks to carry my Dragon 2cm AA gun which is in the mail.

The question of RC raises any price, almost anything can be made RC, but as far as I have heard these two White half-tracks are NOT RC.
