Deagostini Legendary Soviet aircraft series frustrating me
Deagostini Legendary Soviet aircraft series frustrating me
lol......i finally found some time to sit down and go over all the models in this series (over 100) and figure out which ones were 1/72 and which weren't. The scales are often given but i don't trust them.
Anyway......only 4 are 1/72 or extremely close: I-15, I-5, Ant-5 and I-153. I had 2 of them already and just ordered the ANT and I-5. But so many others could have easily been 1/72 but were made much smaller. Polikarpov I-1, I-3, I-17, UT-1, UT-2, BI-1, ANT-2. All these are small planes and would have fit in their standard package easily even at 1/72. The BI-1 rocket fighter is much smaller than an I-153, yet they made it 1/87! The UT-1 is not much bigger than a Gee Bee racer yet they made it 1/83 and so on.
Veeeery frustrating as these are types not likely to ever be made in prebuilt form again and they are all just off scale enough to look out of place in a 1/72 collection.

Re: Deagostini Legendary Soviet aircraft series frustrating
AF, the I-152--a later version of the I-15 is a 1:72nd scale model. When it came time for the I-15, which is the same size, the idiots at the factory opted for 1:87th.
Re: Deagostini Legendary Soviet aircraft series frustrating
I see that this series has now added what appear to be a 1:72nd scale P-51D, Zero, Spitfire and BG-109. The last three are obviously IXOs as can be seen by their stands. Clearly, this is a low cost way to stretch out the series---by adding surplus IXO stock---even when the models don't exactly fit into the theme. They've also included some IXO bombers in the 1:144th scale but these, at least, were Russian planes.
Re: Deagostini Legendary Soviet aircraft series frustrating
i mentioned that in a Yuku thread a few days ago. But i don't think the Mustang et al are Ixo. They are all listed as around 1/96 scale. I didn't bother to inspect them at all so maybe the scales are wrong.
They are also still adding soviet aircraft so i hope the line keeps chugging along; still lots more could be covered.
btw, i found another 1/72 plane in the line. Magazine 96.......Sikorsky S-16 (sometimes called C-16 by sellers). It's listed as 1/95 or something but according to my calculatons, it's between 1/72 and 1/75. A very unusual subject so i snagged one this morning. My calculations are usually pretty good, so hopefully i wont' be disappointed..

Re: Deagostini Legendary Soviet aircraft series frustrating
AF, I took a second look at the Mustang, Spit, etc pictured on the DeAgostini website and all four of the models have exactly the same schemes and markings as the old IXO fighters, plus three of the four seem to be sitting on IXO stands. I'm pretty sure that they are all IXOs ----perhaps licensed product or copies---and the scale is 1:72nd. If they had gone to the expense of doing a new tooling in each case, why would they use IXO's terrible stands, which are designed for the 1:72nd scale, rather than their own, which fit the smaller scale models?
Re: Deagostini Legendary Soviet aircraft series frustrating
as i said i didn't look at them at all....just read the description/scale. Interesting that they're doing this in their Soviet line.

Re: Deagostini Legendary Soviet aircraft series frustrating
I just saw a listing by an eBay seller who claims that the IXO-lookalike Spitfire is a 1:100th scale model. Hmmm! The plot thickens.
Re: Deagostini Legendary Soviet aircraft series frustrating
if you check the Russian site you posted a link to on the Yuku forum, all the non soviet planes are now shown. The P-51 is on a standard deagostini stand, whereas the spit, zero and 109 are on ixo like stands. I suspect the p 51 is around 1/100, judging by the size of it compared to the stand......still not sure about the others but they are all being quoted as approx 1/100, if that means much. I don't really care either way but i am glad to see the series is still ongoing.

Re: Deagostini Legendary Soviet aircraft series frustrating
As can be seen in the link, below, the picture of the "DeAgostini" Spitfire shown by this eBay seller now has the model perched atop what looks like a DeAgostini stand, which is quite different from the IXO stand pictured on the DeA website. Perhaps, it's a redo in a smaller scale as AF postulated. Anyway, the game's afoot.
