I gotta say, I am a little disappointed with the new German figures. Two of the four figures shown are exactly the same as the other release except for a cuff detail and an insignia on the helmet. The other two are nice ideas. The tankers finally have weapons which is nice and the headsets are removable. I think a regular helmet should have been included with the tankers. But why is there no extra heads for the Germans or an officers hat without the radio gear to make an officer? The Major Von Schnitzel figure had a removable officer hat. Could not this hat been molded in gray or black make an officer? I will buy these figures, but probablly not in as great a quantity as the new U.S. figures. All in all in my opinion, a nice addition to the figure line, but the Americans are more thought out than the Germans. This release will still leave me having to track down the first series German Panzer Grenadiers, Officers, and Machine Gunners in order to fully outfit my German forces. Any idea of the release date or case breakdown for these new figures?

Market Garden paratroopers? When will we see pictures of these? Any Germans included in this series? Expected release date?

They would presumably be US 82nd and 101st Air Borne figures wearing the darker green uniforms used in Operation Market Garden in late 1944 when the Allies attempted to liberate Belgium and Holland.

Or, in other words, the Merrils Maurauders figures with the package name changed to Operation Market Garden

The new BoB German figures aren't that much different than the others - from which you could already create a number of different figures - but I really like the German tankers with the removable hats and the machine gun accessories!

I agree. It seemed odd the tankers didn't get any weapons.

The BBI tanker comes equiped with a M3 grease gun.

I've decided to begin collecting armor, figs, paras, tanks, etc. in 1:18 scale. So far, I have bought the Marouder set that includes a jeep, a truck and five Marouders, from TRU. I simply love the detail, the size and the possibilities.

Having said that, here's my problem: I don't know where to begin! I've read many of your comments, but to tell you the truth, I'm utterly confused.

How does one begin? And what particular sources of information are there to build the necessary knowledge, judge accuarcy of new releases, study major events of various wars, etc.? Perhaps a good recommendation on a particular history book would be in order.

Any input you can give me on the subject will be appreciated.

History Channel

Go to your local library and check out the History section. Sometimes you can find some really good bargins in bookstores on WWII history. We have half price books store here in my area that has some killer deals on history.

Read what you can and gather for good sources (this board being one of them).

Ask questions when you don't understand something. Anybody here would gladly give you the anwsers you need.

Music to my ears :D As Razor said, books, the cheaper the better. There are some more definitive sources (German Tanks of WWII) but there are so many cheap reference books I would say don't overspend.

You are in luck as ther has been very little new armor for a while so catching up is not like planes. :P
The command car is from the yesteryear of the 21st collection and has the level of detail that got many of us hooked. Other vehicles with that level of detail include the M3A3 and Hanomag halftrack. These 2, especially the US Halftrack, are must haves. You will know why once you have them. 8)

My first Sherman I would make a bbi Sherman - a later model with a ton of detail and extras - you can get them for about $30 online and it is worth every penny.
Finally, you need a Tiger I. People have commented about the small mistakes and the aspects of two different tanks in one, but it is just awesome the first time you pull that turret off and see the inside  :D

After that I would suggest a Panther (only at stores in winter now) and a Panzer IV, although watch out for QC with the Panzer.
