Opinions of FOV Strike Eagle?

Post by aferguson » Mon Apr 21, 2014 2:43 pm

Anyone have the Forces of Valor F-15E Strike Eagle? Opinions of it? Seems to look decent from pics but i'm leary of FOV jets. Can anyone vouch for it?

hm.....i guess i was right to be leary. Too bad. Has Hobby Master, or anyone made a good Strike Eagle? The Witty is lousy. I haven't really checked out the Altaya but i doubt it comes with much ordnance.

AFERGUSON:

I have the Dragon F-15E which, according to earlier reviews, is a repaint of its F-15D and has no bombs, etc....just air-to-air missiles.
I also have a Witty F-15E "Memphis Belle" which has lots of bombs, but the canopy is really off.
I have a Franklin Mint F-15E which is big at 1/48....and that's the best I can say about it.
HM's F-15E is supposed to be on the distant horizon.

I do not have this, but have been tempted from time to time, yet just can't make myself jump... Its sort of a crap-shoot on quality. I have a couple of the FOV F-14s (retooled versions) and really like them. Not Century Wings quality, but still quite decent models. I recently picked up an FOV F/A-18F Super Hornet (VFA-41 Black Aces) because its from a squadron stationed locally in my area at NAS Lemoore. It was a little underwhelming for the price... I had to repaint sections of the black on the canopy as the paint was too thin and some of the missiles had fit issues. I should have gotten one of the Dragon F/A-18Fs back when Flying Mule had them on clearance for $35. Sort of why I won't go after the F-15.

I only have the GainCorp F15 and it's got no bombs so I guess it's not the strike eagle then.
Anyone know if it's a decent model ?

Aferg, I have the S1 Black Knights version and the VF-84 Jolly Rogers versions (that was the S2 version, I think). I want to say the QC on the S1 plane was pretty good, a little less with the S2, but still not that bad overall. Has a detailed cockpit, removable ordinance, optional gears, opening canopy, movable wings and horizontal stabilizers. More affordable than the Century Wings versions.

I'm kind of partial to the VF-84 version... You can tell the retooled version from the original FOV F-14 by the box or the picture. The original was very inaccurate, had oversized panel lines and was very toyish...

thanks Tman. I've checked around and the out of production ones are a bit steep, especiallly VF 84, which is no surprise.

But FOV has a new one coming out just now, unit is VF 32 Swordsmen. It's a low viz scheme and represents 207, one of the Libyan Mig killers. Looks pretty decent except it has a strange tan radome....however it's a pre pro pic so that may not be on the final model and even if it is, it's easily painted out, so i may pick that one up for my first one.

I found some online reviews on the fov tomcat and everyone was raving. Apparently it's the same mold CW uses, but CW has tweeked it slightly and has better paint apps. But everyone seems quite happy with the FOV (except for a small number of CW fanatics, who seem as bad as Corgi fanatics).
