Opinions on 1/72 prebuilt P-47s?

The Dragon ones look pretty good, both bubbletop and razorback but a little on the pricey side.

The Oxford razorback doesn't look all that bad. Not sure about the FOV.

I would certainly add the Corgi and Matchbox P-47s to your list of candidate brands, AF.

I don't have any P-47s from the cheapie brands----IXO/War Master, Oxford, Amercom----nor have I bought any of the FOVs. The main reason is that I'm satisfied with my Matchbox, Dragon and Corgi versions so why take the chance on getting an inferior product? Of the three---and they are all good or better, I'd give Dragon a slight edge, due to a more detailed mold, but Corgi's P-47s certainly are a close second. So its really a matter of scheme preferences and price, in my opinion. The Matchbox renditions are still quite passable but they are all wheels-up and their stands stink.

thanks Epap. I hadn't forgotten about the Matchbox ones but they've gotten so expensive they are far more than the Dragons, which i considered superior just from looking at pics. Corgi i usually shy away from for single engined fighters just because they're so expensive for the small size.

Dragon it is then. Thanks. The Oxford doesn't look all that bad and i could see picking one up, as it's a razorback and i'm less into the razorback version and don't mind if it's not as good quality wise. But i'd like a couple of good quality bubbltops. I'm a strange egg, i guess.

I have a Corgi P-47D razorback and a Matchbox P-47 bubbletop variant. I've never really been in the market to get another and have been very well satisfied with both. The FOV version has been tempting, but I've never jumped on it. I'm not that impressed with the Oxford of the MRC Easy Model versions. Too plain, simple, an cheap-looking.

I don't think you can beat the Dragon Warbirds P-47 for detail on both the bubbletop and razorback. They do have their drawbacks in that there are more little parts that can be difficult to put on. A little patience and some white glue if needed helps. They too have sliding canopies both that are executed nicely. I'm surprised that they are quite inexpensive still. There's a couple more I want to get.

The only reason I don't like the Corgi razorback is the gap behind the canopy on the fuselage top, though the bubbletop looks fine.

I have a couple of Matchbox P-47's, and while they are nice, the panel lines are a little deep and they are in flight only, which I know you like them flying anyways. There's something to be said for the sturdy simplicity of a Matchbox. I thought they were cheap to have, though I haven't checked the prices lately.

Go for Hobby Master's Gabreski Jug in 1/48......Best P-47 in diecast.
