New 1:18 for 2014 ?
I was thinking about the upcoming year and our hobby....it may not be like the old days, but
I think it's off to a good start.
First off is Pickelhaube's Jagdtiger, this is going to be great! His King Tiger is killer! Both are a must
if you collect 1:18 Armor.
Then we have Pizzaguy's Fw Ta-183 Huckebein, From the pics He's posted its going to be very cool! and it'll
go well with the Pickelhaube Ho-229.
New figures, this is big....Melvin informed Us of the new 1:18 line from Tieka Toys. Ourwar WWII Germans,
set of six. These figures look very good and will fit in nicely with existing 1:18.
Can't forget about Grunts 3-D printed Battlegroundtoys at Shapeways.....great stuff that no one else offers.
Just a few things to start off the New Year, lets see whats next........ .....
Normandy.

Basically all custom stuff, Normandy.
Great that these are being done, but where is Merit, JSI, or BBI ? Or any other manufacturer?
No word on the FW 190A for months, same with the Harrier.
Think we will be lucky to see even one of these done in 2014. Not trying to be pessimistic, but hard not to at this time.

Re: New 1:18 for 2014 ?
Honestly, I think those new 1/18 Germans are a big morale booster -- or at least should be seen as such. If they do well, didn't Melvin suggest the company may look into making other WWII era figures as well? I think that's a pretty damn big deal, considering we haven't seen new WWII figures in what...5, 6 years?
Sure, starting out with Germans is pretty safe (probably not as safe as starting out with U.S. troops), but it's still a big step. If we get Russians, or Brits, or even Japanese out of it too, we would be crazy to still be bummed about the state of 1/18 military.

I looked at the trap, Ray.

Re: New 1:18 for 2014 ?
Doom! Gloom! The continued death throws of the 1:18 military hobby
Seriously, though, I expect it to be a slow year apart from the custom items and repaints - pretty much like last year. Actually the last completely new item we got was the Merit Dauntless and the first version came out in June 2012. Everything else has been repaints or modifications. (I'm not counting model kits or the Pickelhaube/Grunt1 custom items). Hopefully this year there will be the new FW-190A and Harrier. We know the Harrier is at least in the works, but nothing has been said about the FW-190A for quite some time...

Is there a repaint of the 1/18 JSI F-14 on the horizon?

An F-14 in a VF-111 "Sundowners" scheme would be neat - or perhaps a properly "de-spotted" version of the S1 VF-84 scheme... Third time's a charm, right?

Re: New 1:18 for 2014 ?
I wish Merit would make a Kate to go with the Dauntless. As much as I like German stuff I would be very happy with anything Russian, or better yet a Hurrican.
If I had my own 1/18 company I would make my first wave to be:
(Big money makers)
1. Hurrican (very popular)
2. I-16 Ratta (small and cool)
3. Me163 (small, cool and popular)
Second wave:
1.Kate
2.Me-110
3.Mosquito
4. IL-2 Sturmovik

Re: New 1:18 for 2014 ?
Greetings:
I think a Kate or Val would be a great pairing with the SBD as well. I wish they'd stick with World War II aircraft as the size is manageable for 1.18 at least for single engine planes, the jets are just too big for my display area.
I'm surprised Merit hasn't shown anything more they have commissioned to make such as the Dauntless. The Dauntless was such a step above everything that has been previously offered in the scale that I'm surprised Merit would even want to put their name on that old 109 anymore.

But the old 109 was given a new, merit-designed canopy that still doesn't look quite rightCoreyeagle48 wrote:The Dauntless was such a step above everything that has been previously offered in the scale that I'm surprised Merit would even want to put their name on that old 109 anymore.
I agree, however, that its too bad we're not seeing much more new items after the Dauntless, which by all accounts was a successful release for both paint schemes. Then again, market forces and production costs dictate. Its easier to make a repaint using existing toolings (even with slight modifications) than a completely new aircraft. I imagine we will see the Harrier and FW-190A in 2014 and hopefully those will be of similar quality as the Dauntless.

Re: New 1:18 for 2014 ?
Hope to see them both painted up for display come February 16-19 at New York's annual Toy Fair. If you have anything new to share with us Jim we are all ears. : )
Re: New 1:18 for 2014 ?
This is not new, but it's new to me. I found the Pegasus 1:18 scale V-1 buss bomb from Bad Cat. Can you tell me about the quality and is it worth adding it in front of my Spitfire hanging from the ceiling?

Re: New 1:18 for 2014 ?
the V-1 from Pegasus is a nice model ( I see Bad Cat is selling the prebuilt version ) no moving parts but
it looks great. Hanging with a Spitfire would look very cool!

Re: New 1:18 for 2014 ?
It looks great side by side with the Spitfire! My son has both hanging from his room ceiling.
Re: New 1:18 for 2014 ?
Thank you Granch and Normandy for your comments about the V-1. I think I'll get one.
Not sure how to display it. if I hang it, no problem. I looked up (images) for launch platforms for the V-1 and found a simple transport cart which could be made out of spruce or balsa to support the buzz bomb for display on the shelf. I'm leaning to build the cart.

I actually made one a few years ago.

Re: New 1:18 for 2014 ?
PH,
I don't know what version can be found now. I bought for my son an unpainted kit. Because we have no special skill in painting, I made what I could, dark green up side and light blue-grey infra, no waved limit between both colours on the fuselage. Hanging it side by side with a Spitfire is a good historical scenery, at the time when the RAF had a special tactic in "with your own wing, just lift the V-1 wing to make trouble in the gyroscopic "autopilot" and it will go down to the sea instead of reaching London". Hanging it at the ceiling might be less work than a transport car, the starting catapult and much more.

I miss the good ol' days of many releases from a couple different companies, most under $100.

It would appear so. Even Star Wars has shifted to a larger scale. Like to see the Harrier this year.
