Back after 10 years.
Back after 10 years.
Hello, I started collecting 1:18 WWII aircraft when I found an old Blue Nose P-51 in a Toys R Us store. I was hooked. I collected one of every airplane built by 21St C, and Blue Box. My Merit SBD was my last addition. There are 18 1:18 WWII and Korean airplanes in my cave. I stopped when 21C packed it in and did not add much after that. Now, I don't want to miss any new items. I'm still hooked and want to grow my fleet. What can I expect in 2014. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.
Prices have doubled and subjects have been withdrawn.
Many have jumped ship to other scales .
Now is a sad time for 1/18th scale.

Mostly expensive repaints, unfortunately.
Rumours of a FW 190A, and a Harrier, but these have yet to make an appearance.

Welcome!
Pickelhaube made and sold a 1:18 Horten Ho-229 kit....
...and Pizzaguy is making an Fw Ta-183 kit in 1:18.
These are two that would help grow your fleet plus the Fw-190 mentioned above.

What ever happened to the 21st C molds, did anybody buy them? Is there any talk about re-releases? What about BlueBox, Admiral and Merit in the future? I can't believe this market is that small nobody can justify production runs for the collector. 21st C was a big deal 10 years ago. What happened?

Re: Back after 10 years.
Well.............it is thought that jsi is in possession of many of them. This has never been made clear, seems to be a question of theft / piracy or someone owing money. Two sides to a story .
As far as re-releases, there have been several from jsi.... Tiger I, Panther, German 88, and US half-track. Aircraft we've seen Me-262, Stuka, Messerschmidt, P-38 Lightning, Corsair and F-104.
Admiral is MIA, possibly a victim of the economy, BlueBox /BBI
21st's dealings with toy's r us was how I first came across 1:18 and them walmart. I think its dealings with
walmart with their demand for product plus their shity distribution was something 21st couldn't control. Then
having to discount tons of aircraft and armor helped put 21st under and its been said 21st burned some bridges
on the way up....never a good thing.
There's more to it I'm sure, but thats about it.
There is one interesting mystery regarding 21st's 1:18 King Tiger, just after the release of their 88 it was announced
that the King Tiger production was finished, boxed and just about "on the water" (shipped). I had two on order with
Military Issue......then nothing.
I wonder who has possession of Them?

Re: Back after 10 years.
Since trying to become more ACTIVE in the hobby , I decided to investigate the "on line" companies selling 1:18 aircraft. As you know, I found some old 21C and BBI stuff at very high prices but nothing about upcoming releases. It is very discouraging. But I'm not down.
I'm taking down my airplanes from their ceiling hangers to clean, inspect and enjoy them before hanging back up. I have my "Peg O My Heart" P47 sitting on the computer desk
(wheels down) next to me. I dream of a 1:18 Wildcat or long promised B-25. I'll wait, maybe someday.....
