FOV 2006 VF-154 Black Knights F-14A Tomcat
Guys at a few sites a FOV 1/72 Black Knights tomcat is listed for preorder. From the pic, it LOOKS like a new tool. But it was from a distance so I am not sure if it is just a repaint of their existing mold, though it does look more refined and accurate. Anyone have more detailed info? Does it still have retractable gear? Or is it detacheable now like their WWII stuff? Will it be sold to target? It looks rather nice.
Shin's wishlist for 1/18 and 1/32 with retractable landing gear and more:
F-14 Tomcat, F-8 Crusader, A-4 Skyhawk, F-105 Thunderchief, A-6 Intruder, F-15C, F-15E Strike Eagle

Hey Shin: The VF-154 Black Knights F-14A Tomcat will be a new tooling-so sayeth Candy Dong, Unimax's Hong Kong-based customer rep. I've been sending her frequent nastygrams concerning the deplorable quality of FOV's recent aircraft, including their hideous 1:72 Tornado and Tomcat. I basically told her "be good or be gone". I expressed our particular disappointment with FOV's recent 1:32 warbird releases. Candy said she relayed our concerns to the Unimax engineers and R&D people, and that improvements are coming. She said the new Tomcat will have greatly toned-down panel lines, etc.
I personally think Unimax is torn between selling high quality models to the few afficianados like us or selling large volumes of crap to the kiddies at Target. I guess time will tell which direction Unimax takes. Lets hope they get religion!

Thanks for the info man! Could you ask Candy for more details, like will there be retractable or detacheable gear? And will this be sold to target? What about the tornado and other jets, any of those coming out? I actually did not mind the retractable gear but the sculpt and panel lines threw me off. And the fact that they called it a Tornado IDS when it was really an ADV. The black knight F-14A looks AWESOME though. Any more tomcats aside that coming our way?

Shin: Why not ask Candy yourself? Her e-mail address is : candydong@unimax.com.hk
I can't take credit for stumbling across her. FOV Collector posted her e-mail address on the Model Hangar Forum.
Candy encourages people to write her and usually responds promptly (sometimes immediately, in real time, if you catch her at work). Hong Kong is about 12 hours later than U.S. Central Standard time-i.e. if I e-mail her at 9:00 p.m CST. it's about 9:00 a.m. her time, the next morning. So send Candy an e-mail. Introduce yourself, say you talked to donnieboy, and ask her your questions. Unlike many model companies, Unimax/FOV makes a sincere effort to listen to their customers. Tell her your concerns and what models you'd like to see in what scale. I'm sure she's sick of me always bugging her! Why not lend your voice to the chorus? Please don't be shy, Shin (or anyone else reading this). E-mail Candy pronto!
