1/18 short barrel R/C panther prototype on ebay

Post by TankAce » Thu Oct 24, 2013 7:24 am

This is the same seller that has sold some resin prototypes of 1/6 and 1/18 21st century toys.
Looks like 21st century had a bunch of ideas and this is one good example.

Looks interesting but I'm not sorry it was never produced.

I Agree Normandy, just not something that interests me a whole lot. Seems like 21st spent a lot of time on repaints and gimmicks, when they should have been making King Tigers and other new items. LOL

I agree, when I first saw I I thought it was Henglongs first panther that was horrible. There panther they make now is very nice though. It almost looks like they were going to make it shoot air soft bbs. Glad they did not waste their time with that.

I think that if they had made an RC Panther in the same sort of way that they made the Panzer IV and M-113 (i.e. use the standard vehicle shell & components, but with RC machinery and sound on the interior) it would have been neat.

Outside of the QC issues on the first examples and over-scale speed, I thought their RC 1:18 Panzer IV was a great addition to the 1:18 line. In retrospect, I really wish they had made the Sherman RC, as opposed to the M-113, so there would be something to oppose the Panzer IV, but we all know about 21c's famous sense of logic, or lack thereof.

Good find Normandy. I guess it's possible, but you might be giving them too much credit. Looking at the prototype again I think they were just trying to find a way to make the tank fit in a smaller box

Didn't those observation Panthers have fake wooden barrels? If 21st wanted to knock it out of the park they should have made a RC bergpanther with functioning RC winch and pully system! 8)

Looking at the pics of the 21st prototype, this model may have been in mid-design for the observation Panther.
The large front fenders and sides (armor?) might have helped to keep the tracks on the RC model. My 21st RC Panzer IV would often throw a track.

TKO any intel on this?

I won it !!!

Nobody else bid on it

It is still cool to have a prototype piece of armor from 21st.

Sure wish it were a bergespanther or maybe even a flakpanther

Congrats on the win Pickle. I agree with you and Jnewboy a bergespanther would have been better.

I got the box early in the week but have just gotten the chance to open her up to see what I spent my money on.

Well like we have said I wish it were a .......

But none the less the fact it is a prototype makes it cool.

In the pic you can see where the left fender is slightly cracked. The other side is fine but the crescent shaped front fender is missing on the other side.

The hatch handle is missing and the barrel does not move up or down.

The add on parts ( fenders ) are the mustard yellow plastic matching the rest of the model and there does seem to be a factory paint job on them matching the rest of the parts. ( except the ambush dots )

It looks like the add on parts were painted then glued on. The glue is not painted. Unless the parts were broke off then re-glued.

I am now the proud owner of a 21st prototype R/C Panther.

Now I have bragging rights !!!

:D :D :D

Now this would be an EASY conversion. New mantlet and dummy gun with a different style of enders.

Any interest ?
