merit Announcment
Re: merit Announcment
A 109E is not a yawn to me, that plane and the Spitfire Mk II are classic 1940 adversaries and many collectors love to display the pair in various scales. The pairing I'm talking about came before mottling went into effect, the 109's had sky blue fuselage sides, a small spine section of black green and dark green splinter cammo, and colorful unit and personal markings. The early-war 109's were very well maintained by the black shirts, the German aircraft crews stationed in France.

Perhaps a Spitfire should be next on their repaint list. They certainly fetch a good price these daysAra wrote:A 109E is not a yawn to me, that plane and the Spitfire Mk II are classic 1940 adversaries and many collectors love to display the pair in various scales. Spitfire? That'd be great. However if I recall, that mold is no more. Someone else may know more.

Re: merit Announcment
The above are correct, The 21c Spitfire MkI/II moulds were aparently destroyed, along with the AH-1W and I believe the P-47s. Sort of why we never saw those after their initial runs.
But speaking of Merit announcements, and JSI's tendency to release repaints of 21c toolings, wouldn't it be great if the "new" FW-190 was actually just a repaint of the old 21c version

At this point if that happened I would get on a plane to China and there would be another "factory fire"tmanthegreat wrote:The above are correct, The 21c Spitfire MkI/II moulds were aparently destroyed, along with the AH-1W and I believe the P-47s. What happened to the harrier? Is it confirmed, or was it replaced by the FW-190?

Re: merit Announcment
I was thinking today about this 109e they are making. I know the pictures of the canopy look allot better than 21st Centuries did. That said is this a whole new plane? if they are reusing the old tooling then how could the canopy change? the width would change and then so would the body or fuselage...
So I guess my question is to anyone who knows is..
Is this a whole new 109e?
Or is it the same tooling as the 21st Century toys?
How do you know??

Re: merit Announcment
According to Jim they are both new toolings. He stated earlier on this thread back in April/May.

Wasn't it supposed to be an April annoucement ?
This waiting is just killing us ! for one complete month i went to this page evrey day with a lot of people saying i know but i can't tell !
SO is it really a FW190 + AV8B ?
Both could be an isntant hit for me !![]()
There are 2 projects for all new tooling 1/18 Aircraft in 2013:
1/18 AV-8B - JSI project already in test shot stage 1 (T1), now making adjustment to the
molds for more pretty T2 parts.
1/18 FW190 A5 - Merit project now in tooling stage
We need your help to support the hobby. With your support, more 1/18 NEW TOOLING items will be made and increase hope that other manufacturers will get back into game!! soon.

Re: merit Announcment
I get the FW-190a and the AV-88 are new tooling, Im talking about this new repaint of the Galland Me-109. Some are saying the canopy has been changed and looking at the photos it looks better/different than the 21st Century version from back in the day.
So is it the same tooling or new?
Maybe they made one prototype for photos and the actual one released to the public will be the same as the 21st Century version with the same canopy??

Re: merit Announcment
I am going to take an educated guess and say that the BF-109 a repaint with tooling changes. The shape of the fuselage and overly-thick wings look very much like the old 21c plane. The canopy is most certainly different and really changes the look of the whole aircraft, BTW! It also seems that the main landing gear may be different, but I can't tell... I'll also assume that the exposed screws on the underside of the wing that were present on the 21c version would be covered on the JSI plane.
We know that JSI is also making minor modifications to the 21c F-86 tooling for their upcoming release - that strategy seems consistent with what they are showing for the BF-109. I recall that JSI had a repaint prototype of a Bf-109E on display a few years ago around the time they released the first F-14s. It was painted in Von Werra's livery or something close that, so they've had access to this old tooling.

Re: merit Announcment
If they have made those changes I will certainly get one! But I wont be the Guinea Pig, I want more pictures than those taken by the company. Jim has not even spoken on here to there being any changes from the old 21st mold which troubles me. Some clarification is greatly needed. Thanks for the info Tman! I got to get up to Fresno some day and take the tour of your collection

Well boys and girls, Comic Con is now just a few days away. So what new items will Merit have to show for us this round? Among the countless projects will it be the AV-8B, FW-190 A5, or both? Time will only tell.

Re: merit Announcment
From my understanding according to Merit's Facebook site they now have a completed prototype of the Harrier jet unpainted. I'm pretty sure they will have both on display at Comic Con this weekend.
Can't wait.

Re: merit Announcment
Well today's the day folks. I just found out this morning Merit will have a working unpainted prototype of the AV-8B Harrier on display at their booth. I'm sure they will have the FW-190 A5 there as well. Currently, we have a few friends over at the Fighting 1:18th reporting in from the show floor at San Diego Comic Con. Further intel is expected to pour in throughout the day and over the weekend. Stay tuned....

Well, it looks like the Harrier isn't quite in one piece yet.
