Removing Stuka Wings

Post by pickelhaube » Fri Jul 05, 2013 7:04 pm

Hey Guys,

This should probably go on helpful hints post , but I will post it here.

The Stuka wings are near impossible to get off once snapped into place.

But not really , they come off kinda easy if brute strength is applied in the correct manner.

------------------How to remove the Stuka's wings.-----------------------

1. Take off landing gear and rear stabilizers. ( take off the loose canopies as well or they will go flying )

2.Place Stuka in your lap with cowling and rear of the fuselage resting on top of your thighs one wing up in the air the other tight between your legs.

3. Clamp your legs on the bottom wing .Hold the cowling tight down on your leg with one hand

4.With the other hand grab the wing on the leading edge of the wing right where the cross insignia is and pull straight back towards the rudder.

5. You will hear a loud snap ( blood curdling  )and the wing pops off easy WITH NO DAMAGE.

6. Repeat for the other side.

Yes it can be hard. I always sand down the bottom edge of the lip on the wing. This makes it easy to go on and is easy to remove but will not fall off by its self. I made this video awhile back.

Hey guys - thanks much for the tips here. What brand are we talking here, Ultimate Soldier, BBI?

Stumbled upon this topic by accident. I have not tried removing my Ultimate Soldier Desert Stuka wings in fear of breaking/snapping off part of the plastic assembly.

Got to love the Stuka!

BBI did not make the stuka only 21st.

I successfully removed the wings from 6 stukas using this method with do mishaps.

Thanks Pickelhaube! I've removed 21c Stuka wings a couple times before without issue (though that cracking sound is quite scary!) With the 3 that I have now, one is in the box and the other two I simply won't dismantle for safety-sake.

I do recall hearing that the JSI copy of the 21c Stuka had weaker tabs that were more prone to breakage...
