A Lot Of Soviet Armor
A Lot Of Soviet Armor
A discussion on another thread morphed to the subject of what armor models there are in the 1:43-1:50th scale, especially for Soviet tanks, AFVs, etc. The answer is quite a lot from brands like Solido, Verem, Gaso.line, Corgi, HM, and some others. I thought it might be informative to show some pictures from my ever expanding collection, ranging from the 1:30th-1:35th scales down to 1:72nd----in this case zeroing in on Soviet pieces. We start with two 1:30th tanks by John Jenkins Designs---a T-26 and a "Fast Tank" ---plus an early T-34 by First Legion in the same scale. All three are Polystone models:

Re: A Lot Of Soviet Armor
Next, four more biggies. The KV-1 and Green T-34 are by FOV----in the latter case with a little help from me. The Winter T-34 is by King & Country and the Stalin is a kit-build:

Re: A Lot Of Soviet Armor
Pictured below are two Solido SUs and a Russian made T-34 in the 1:43rd scale. The latter has been repainted and marked and comes from an old line, dating back about 25 years or longer. Examples of this T-34 along with an SU and other items are now being sold on eBay.

Re: A Lot Of Soviet Armor
Next are four Gaso.line models in the 1:50th scale plus another"Fast Tank", from a Romanian brand I never heard of, in 1:48th ( upper right ):

Re: A Lot Of Soviet Armor
Here are three Soviet armored cars. The BA-64, on the left, is from the current GE Fabbri series and is in 1:43rd. The other two are 1:48th scale models:

Re: A Lot Of Soviet Armor
Here's a group of T-43s, plus one Stalin from HM, Verem, Tamyia and Corgi. All fall into the 1:48th-1:50th range.

Re: A Lot Of Soviet Armor
Four more: The T-62 is by Polistil and is in 1:48th; it dates way back to the late 1970s. The BTRs are from Gaso.line and who knows where and the T-55 is by an unknown Chinese maker. The latter is very nice and can be had on eBay for as little as $12 plus shipping.

Re: A Lot Of Soviet Armor
Next, we switch to the 1:72nd scale, where many brands are at play----GE Fabbri, HM, IXO, etc. Here are some models from the early days of WW2:

Re: A Lot Of Soviet Armor
More 1:72s with a larger number of tanks:

Re: A Lot Of Soviet Armor
Moving into the post WW2 era, here's another group:

Re: A Lot Of Soviet Armor
Finally, a more recent assemblage, including the T-80 and T-90 plus a number of self-propelled guns I never heard of before:

Re: A Lot Of Soviet Armor
Nice!!! Since you are a fan of Soviet Armor, you should also get FOV T-72. I have that model and the details are excellent.

Re: A Lot Of Soviet Armor
Thanks, AF and Heer. I agree about the FOV T-72. I have three of them and they are nice models. I wish I could find one---I think FOV makes it---in the 1:32nd scale to go with my biggies.

Hello Epap -
It's like looking at an overhead model of the Kubinka museum in Moscow!
Fantastic collection of Russian armour - brilliant photographs and as with all your photo sets - an inspiration to collect even more....be it armour or aviation!.
All the best!

Very nice. The 1/32 FOV T-72 can still be found easily eneough. Don't forget about FOV's KV-1.

Re: A Lot Of Soviet Armor
Thanks, Ketelone. I have the FOV KV-1, its in the second picture, above. The thing is so ugly I often forget I have it. As for the larger T-72s, I see them only rarely on eBay and at pretty high prices. I'll be patient and bide my time on the T-72.ketelone wrote:Very nice. Re: A Lot Of Soviet Armor
the fov t-34/85 and the king country t-34 look the same size/scale. are they or is it just the angle of the picture your took?
Re: A Lot Of Soviet Armor
It's the angle. The K&C T-34 is slightly larger----as it should be.

Re: A Lot Of Soviet Armor
The K&C is larger. K&C is 1/30. FOV goes well with Britains armor. You can purchase retired Britains for very reasonable prices...

Re: A Lot Of Soviet Armor
Some of the older K&C armor is closer to 1/32.
