I'm glad to see BCA will offer the 21C Avenger. But if it was close to delivery, (1st quarter 2006) I'm sure BCA would have it on their website. I'm beginning to think the Avenger will be harder to find then flight 19. Is W-M going to get it also?

To have, or not to have!

Although I'd love to have all five of the Flight-19 aircraft, I don't think I have the necessary real estate for such a project.

I'll probably end up getting one each, Pacific and Atlantic versions. I'll fly my Pacific along my Zero and Corsairs (currently in my family room) and the other with my European Theater planes, already numbering 16 aircraft, and currently in my master bedroom.

As for the alien figure, I have nothing to say one way or the other. I just want to get my Avenger, period.

On Cable TV last weekend there was a program about a group of triangle researchers that found 5 sunken avengers all located 12 miles east of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and this is the really weird part :? ... All 5 avengers were found together within a 1.5 mile diameter circle. Some of the avengers had the F-T markings visable on their sides but none of the aircraft were from flight 19. I guess the ocean is just littered with downed aircraft.

The most plausible theory is they all ran out of fuel about 200 miles east of Daytona Beach, FL

Good thing that the container ship with all the avengers does not have to cross the Atlantic Ocean to get here. Otherwise we may never see them.

At about 2:10 p.m. on the afternoon of 5 December 1945, Flight 19, consisting of five TBM Avenger Torpedo Bombers departed from the U. S. Naval Air Station, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on an authorized advanced overwater navigational training flight.

Guys... today is the anniversary of flight 19. 60 years ago today.

I didn't realize today was the anniversary. It would have been fitting if 21st had made a major product announcement today. And would have probably increased interest and sales, too. sigh.

With all the intelligent marketing, there seems to be no market intelligence. Good save John, good observation flayrah.

I noticed that today was the beginning of the Sci-Fi Channel miniseries
of "The Triangle" Probably is in line with the Anniversary. Someone over there was thinking about marketing. Wish 21st was.... :?

Sorry if this is old news, but this is the first I recall of a price tag put on the Avenger ($84.99):

Wow! First I've seen a price too! Thier prices are a little higher than other e-tailers so I would imagine the others will have it for around 79.99.
If everything reported about the Avenger is true, then 80 bucks is a fair price :)

Pretty steep price but considering how long the wait is before we finally see it in person, I think most will not bicker about the cost. Besides, prices at on-line retailers are usually higher than retail stores, but the tradeoff is that the wait may be even longer, if not forever, if one decides to purchase at retail.

Wasn't there talk from "sources" who quoted this as $49.99 at Wally? Or was that speculation? And can anyone make an informed guess if the photos are of the actual 1:18 XD model, or something else?

They look like the original model ones to me, having seen all three schemes in person. There's only slight differences really, it's mostly the things like pitot tube & Antennas that vary as because of production molds and good chances of breaking off they can't make them as small and detailed as model kits.

Avenger

Post by JimBob55 » Thu Jan 05, 2006 8:32 pm

Cool! Good to see some kind of movement :D :D !

However the lower photo is the original 21C promo photo from almost two years ago. I don't believe that the upper photo of the model with folded wings is of an actual 21C model; perhaps of a smaller scale detailed kit. At very least, the cowl flaps are open in the photo, which isn't how the 21C Avenger has appeared so far--nor any other 21C or BBI radial-engined aircraft.

The price seems fair to me, considering the level of detail and size of the model. I would've expected the price to be in the neighborhood of the BBI F-18 price, and it is.

By the way, great scouting on finding the listing for the Avenger. Definitely NOT old news to me! I keep checking BadCat for any updates.

Avenger

I don't know how many of you pre-ordered the Avenger from the Toy Federation, but I did. I pre-ordered three way back in 9/04 when they were advertised for $54.95. At the same time they were having a "free shipping" deal and they honored that too. So, even though I have been waiting, looks like the price will turn out OK too, and NADA/Zilch for shipping to boot.

Wow - that is deal in hindsight. Very cool of them to honor that price too.

To be honest I think $85 is a little high. I have noticed prices starting to climb....I saw the plastic S5 21C sherman at BCA is $50  I hope this is not a trend with online shops. :?

Good catch on the open cowl flaps JimBob, and thanks for the heads-up Vulgarvolture.

It's been such a long wait on the Avenger that I'm begining to dislike the darn thing. As for price, I think it's reasonable to pay something between what we pay for the P-47s and the F-16/18 series.

Why doesn't 21st just stop BSing us about the Avenger and just say forget it. They just dangle a carrot, while other companies produce items they say they will. IMHO 21st will soon become a has been in this field if they keep doing this to customers. I'm just fed up with the whole Avenger idea now, even though I already paid for my pre-orders. May just call company and try to cancel for some sort of refund or exchange.

Geez guys... give them a break. I've seen the Avengers in person, so they are not going to just take them away. You guys have to think from a companie's POV... there's a lot of things that go into these aircraft that can cause delays. The littlest things are make a big impact. Having been around 21st a lot at Comic Con, I got to hear some stories and let me tell you that it's not as easy as it may sound.

21st could always just say 'forget it' and start some other line... the XD line is expensive. It's just been a long spell and many of you are overly anxious to get this Avenger. Trust me, I want one really badly too... especially after seeing them. But, it shouldn't be on my schedule for when I think they should be coming out with it. I'd rather wait as long as it takes for a GOOD product, not something rushed out with flaws and problems... because that's how it would be. 'Oh 21st must have rushed this to get this out because there's so many flaws on it, wish they would have taken more time.' Keep in mind they get one shot at this in full production. If something's wrong, it's a lot harder and more expensive to correct it when you're half way into the production.

Instead of getting on their case, just keep giving them your support and letting them know that you're anxious for it, but willing to wait for what will probably be the best 1:18 scale aircraft TO DATE.

Geez guys... give them a break
p51: I'm not sure if you meant to include me as one of the 'guys' as someone who's complaining, but just to clarify so subsequent posts don't lump me in the complainer bucket ....My post was just reporting an update. That's it. I've never once complained in any way about the Avenger release schedule.

Personally, I'm waiting on the Atlantic scheme and am looking forward it's release.

Keep up the good work with this Board and thanks for all the great pictures you post.

Well said both p51 and vulgarvulture. When the Avenger arrives I will get one... or two...or three. Until then, whats three more months? I understand everyones frustration but I'm sure the Avenger will be well worth the wait.

V.V., I'm stoked about the Atlantic scheme too.... Nice looking bird  !
