No 8 Models: German Bomb Dolly. Time for Mk2

Hey fellas.
Next release from my Shapeways store will be a Bomb Dolly for use with the 1/18th Stuka's, 190's and 109's.



Need some feedback on a few things.
Do you want the wheels to rotate?
I'm probably going to make the arm jack fixed. Is this a big deal?
The handle at the front end will probably be hinged, so you can set a figure at different angles.
It will probably also be in some sort of kit form. Is this a big deal?
I could assemble and paint them for people, but the shipping costs would suck.
I have no idea of a price point so far. Whats a fair price?

Any ideas, or critisism welcome.

Yes. Even though my first Sprue layout didn't include the SC250 Bomb (as shown in the link) http://www.shapeways.com/model/984389/b ... Box-search , the final version will include it. Just have to add a few more details.
Would be easy enough to even have two versions for those that want it with, or without.

o Rotating wheels would be nice, but not the end if they don't.
o When you say the arm jack would be fixed, you mean a single position for the bomb? If so, that's not a huge deal, but it would be nice if it could be positioned in lowered or raised position, like a pivot and pin kind of deal. It doesn't need to function like a real jack.
o Kit is not a problem.
o Whatever price you choose is fair: this is your intellectual property and you determine its value to you. Whether people buy it or not depends on its value to them. That's my two cents, but I just finished reading Atlas Shrugged (again).

Yes, the wheels will be free to rotate.

At this stage I'm going to leave it as is, just to simplify the design.

Cool. It's pretty straight forward to put together. The only things to glue would be one join along the body of the main frame, wheels halves and the pins which hold the wheels in place. I can also do instructions if need be.
Again. I've gone with the kit form, to make painting and detailing more easier.

Sorry for the delay fellas. Just ordered the first test piece, with the added SC250 Bomb. Should be here in 3 weeks. The image below is a rendering, using the exact same CAD model that is being used for the test piece.

Jay, great job. Having the ability and skill to build models is one thing but, the guys who are able to design stuff like this and make them come to life, that just takes it to a whole new level. I am not a WWII guy but, I can appreciate your talent on this item. Looking forward to seeing other items from you in the future.

I haven't been able to find clear scale drawings of them.

Looked on Google and found a picture of a TBF being loaded on the Wasp in WWII.The dolly looks like the one in your picture but only seems to be about 5 or 6 feet long using the sailors as a gauge. There is a wheel on the side the would seem to activate a scissor jack to raise the torpedo up into the plane. Interesting. This would be a realistic way to display the torpedo. Regards...Bob

I did a quick google search as well.
I couldn't find any good reference photos. A few large side views but nothing showing the top or under side details.
Found a 1/48 avenger diorama with a trolley, but it was scratch built.
Reference material will be the thing to keep an eye out for from now on.

Ok, so i'm going to follow suit and try and contain all the model releases under this one post.
I will be starting the modern ordnance kits soon, but recently I've been working on some follow ups to the bomb dolly. Included is a WGr21 rocket launcher, some ammo boxes, and various other German bombs. This should also tie in nicely with the upcoming FW190A. At this stage you would have to drill some holes under the wing. I could possibly make a simple template available with the kit, as well as maybe some online measurements to follow.

About to order the first test prints.
Do you guys think i need to supply a drilling template for the attachment pins?




Also received a UPS notice saying the Bomb Dolly was on it's way. They had some issue with printing the wheel pins, so they are going to print them separately. Hopefully they won't be to far behind the main kit.
