Flea Market Finds

Post by ketelone » Mon Apr 08, 2013 4:53 pm

I went to a flea market yesterday, and one of the vendors had multiple built 1/32 models, a Sabre, P40, ME109, P47, F4, etc. Not bad work. I inquired about the models and the vendor told me he acquired them from a gentleman who loved to build models. The vendor showed me a picture of the room where the models were stored. There had to be hundreds of aircraft. Since I had seen this vendor before I asked him where he was going to be next and he told me he was going to be at a model railroad show this Sunday where he planned on having tables of theses models for sale. I think I might have to make some acquisitions this coming Sunday... Just what I need, MORE STUFF!!!

I was ready to "feed my addiction" but I could not strike a deal. I wanted to buy a night Beaufighter and a Hellcat. The vendor was unwilling to negotiate. He said his prices were firm. I thought they were too high. I walked away...
I did discover a little museum in the north suburbs near the former Glenview airbase that has models for sale. They were 1/72 and 1/48 built aircraft. They are priced at $10 for wing spans under 10 inches, over 10 inches were $20. There were all kinds of aircraft: fighters, bombers, choppers from many nations.
