Now, a rear oriented picture from a lower aspect, which shows the gap in a less pleasing light:

Finally, an underside shot:

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
As you can see, I've made no attempt to upgrade the model as yet. Were I to do this, I would try to hide the seams using a mixture of white glue and aluminum paint, and make other mods, like painting the blisters a dark glossy blue, adding some staining, fixing some of the rough patches, etc. Heck, I might even dust the damn thing off once in a while.

Some 1/144th B-17's. Front row has Altaya C, Cafereo F and the best looking B-17's in this scale the F-Toys G.

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
thanks for the feedback Epap. I'm still of mixed emotions on the Atlas Bear. It's not bad but for the cost of one of these, which is generally over $100 shipped, i can buy both the Revell and Trumpeter kits, all the glue and paint to make them and have two different variants of the Bear, in better quality and accuracy. The too short propeller spinners is what really bugs me on the Atlas, for some reason.
Still, it's nice to have a a prebuilt and diecast. Sigh. I wish Altaya would make some really large aircraft in 1/144, like the Bear. That would solve all problems..

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
It's a Corgi 1:144th scale Avro Lancaster adapted for use as an airliner by the Canadians ( Trans Canada Airlines ) circa 1950. One happens to be up for sale on eBay/uk ( item no. 390439010788 ).aferguson wrote:anyone know what the name of the plane is in the backround of this picture, behind the avro york?

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
thank you Epap. I thought it looked very Lancaster-like, more so than the York, which is also based on the Lanc. I've never seen a Lanc like this one before though (that i recall anyway).

I really like the bear, I could deal with the issues it has, but not at $100+!
That's just crazy talk
Like Aferg said with the models, I think it's the best bet...

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
Nice collection Epap.
Surprising to see how big the Pe-8 is to the TU-95. That one's on my list of Russian bombers.
I've seen the Bear come up for auction a few times but like was said it's expensive. Like to see a company like Hobby Master do a nice one, I would pretty much buy it in any scale though as it's one of my favorite Cold War bombers.
Looks like you painted you He-115 floatplane. Mine has those white spots on it.
Nice lot of B-17's JR.
I haven't seen the IXO silver B-17 available in many places, is that silver with OD and yellow tail an IXO, and is it worth having? Or a Cafereo?
I'll be buying the C version IXO eventually and any Cafereo's I can find.
Have to agree and the consensus seems to be that the F-Toys Flying Fortress is the best. You didn't put the decals on yet, saving it for a custom?
Cool layout of Fortresses and buildings.

Dauntless: The B-17 with the yellow tail is "BIT O LACE" it was the "special" B-17 that came with the F-TOYS HEAVY BOMBERS set. The other 2 specials in that set were a white Lancaster and a white with green surrender crosses Jap Betty.

OMG!
An F-Toys Bit 'O' Lace B-17G...to die for...well maybe that's over reacting, but I suspect very rare and expensive.
Could it be the holy grail of 1:144 B-17's ? Had no idea there was a special one out there.
Aferg, yeah those white spots I figured for a winter scenario. Kinda funky, but hey it's an He-115 and I got one so count my blessings I will.

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
Yeah seen those other two special Betty and Lancaster. You can still get them, but never the B-17.
Noticed the Cafereo Memphis Bell next to the F-Toys B-17G. Does it come like that slightly mottled OD with the different shade of OD rudder, or did you do some paint mods on it?
I had been watching one on ebay for a month now and finally bought it.
A little pricey but none available elsewhere. About the price of a diecast Dragon B-17, but at least free shipping, and real cockpit windows.
7toys7 of Hong Kong will give you a little refund into your Paypal account if you sign up with him too, so that's cool.

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
Has anyone ever seen this:
http://ballstownsales.blogspot.ca/2012/ ... flyer.html
It's made by the same company that made the little plastic 1/144 X-Planes series that THP was talking about a while back. The company is called Model Maker. Apparently they also had a Legends of Flight series which contained the Wright Flyer and i guess others. It would be neat to find those.
Dauntless: what do you mean 'sign up with' 7Toys7 and get a refund? I've never seen anything about that. How do you do it? I"ve bought lots of stuff from that guy.

I spruced up the Belle with some extra paint, steel guns and a decal set from MYK Design decals. Their decal sheet comes with markings for a few different aircraft. Plus it has decals for the stenciling and Hamilton Standard logos for the props.Dauntless wrote:Yeah seen those other two special Betty and Lancaster. You can still get them, but never the B-17.

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
Nice custom paint JR. I looked over the one I bought again to see if it had that weathering and didn't see it. Oh well, who doesn't want a Memphis Belle? Might have to do something like that myself.
Interested in seeing those steel guns and weathering up close if you get a chance, thanks.
Aferg, you have to watch for an e-mail 7toys7 sends you to join his list when you first buy something from him.
I thought it was spam and tossed it, only to dig it up in my mail archive because I wanted to buy more planes.
You even get an e-mail telling you the amount he puts back in everytime he sends an item.
Might be worth it to see if he has some link on his Store page, or message him.
That Wright Flyer looks interesting. Wonder how hard to get all that rigging positioned correctly?
Corgi made a simple version in it's flight series, though don't know what scale.

ah i see, that's the 2% refund seller program, not to be confused with the Ebay bucks program, which is also 2%...i really like ebay bucks.
Yes i must have missed the initial email from him. I guess it's too late now. Argghhh.....i could have gotten $2 or $3 in refunds by now.

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
I believe thats from the X-WINGS set, That set seemed to disappear as fast as it came to be. I stumbled across these at a hobby shop about 11 years ago. Yes thats a Bell X-1 and a Northrop Flying Wing! The X-1 looks great next to our B-29's. The planes do not have landing gear. I had to go into the storage to find them, I placed them on some other stands but they do come with their own. I placed the Intruder in the middle of the pack to give a scale reference.aferguson wrote:Has anyone ever seen this:

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
Thanks for the kind word Dauntless, The Belle is a Cafereo B-17F you can see where I got a little carried away removing the printed on star by the F on the fuselage. I work making Control grips for military simulators ( tank, aircraft etc.) The flip guards on some of the switches have to have the spring legs shortened. These clipped off pieces are the correct diameter for the 50's. I dip them in gun blue and thats all. I also shaved a little off the top turret it seemed to sit a bit high.Dauntless wrote:Nice custom paint JR. I looked over the one I bought again to see if it had that weathering and didn't see it. OOPS! forgot one more from the X-WINGS set.

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
JR: that's neat. Do you have them all do you thnk? I knew about all the ones you have shown except the X-29. I have the common six ones now. I didn't want the predator and x-45 as i'm not into drones/uav's. I need the yellow northrop, the wright flyer and it seems, the x-29 too but all those seem to be hard to find. I imagine i'll come upon them one day.
They also made an F-117, so there may indeed be even more. You'd think there would be others besides just the wright flyer in the 'legends of flight' line, but maybe it died before it got going.

Those are cool. See some German engineering in the experimental aircraft reminiscent of the Horten 229 and the Focke Wulf TA-183.
I'd have bought those, missed a lot of good stuff.
Thanks for the close ups of the Memphis Belle JR, again nice work.
Aferg, yeah that's what i think it is, though he sent me a promotion with select items at 3% off this morning with a maximum of $10. Not a whole lot, but something. A good seller with reasonable shipping transit time.
