I ordered one of those Cafereo HE-177's from a Hong Kong seller. Somewhat cheap with free shipping along with the C-47 a few days ago.

What are those under the wings, guided missiles? The IXO? Altaya has them also.

Just ordered a 1/144 Altaya Russian TB-3, seller agreed to let me pay on the 1st, so anyways here's my list of models for buying on the first, including the TB-3
1/144:
(CafeReo, F-Toys)
F-106
Ju-88 Green&trop
B-25 Tan camo
C-47

1/72:
MRC HH-60 camo
HM TBM Flight 19 (maybe)

If I don't win the TBM, ill probably get the He-177, and something else.
Look like a good list? (Also includes a .38 Spc postal )

looks like a fine list THP, lots more to get after those, though. :)

Dauntless, the things under the wings on the He-177 are hs 293 radio control missiles. They are rocket powered and guided via radio control from the launching aircraft. Used primarily for attacking shipping. They are basically a forebearer of modern cruise missiles. Do 217's also carried them.

There is also the Fritz X radio control glide bomb, which i believe the ixo/altaya He 177 comes with. It is unpowered and was also radio controlled from the launch plane. It was somewhat similar in concept to modern day 'smart bombs' only guided by a human with a radio controller, rather than homing in on a laser beam.

Wow, that's interesting. The Germans came up with all kinds of things first.

Maybe should have got the Altaya 177, to get that Fritz X.

the hs 293 was far more commonly used and effective than the Fritz, plus the Cafereo is a much nicer model than the Altaya 177, so you made the right choice.

Yes cruise missiles, smart weapons, ballistic missiles; the germans had it all (or most of it) first it seems.

i've ordered it but it hasn't come yet. I have a feeling it will need a bit of tweeking to make it accurate. An extra window behind the cockpit, which i will do with a decal and new props with proper spinners, which i'll probably scoff off of an old F toys betty i've got. Won't be perfect but will look more correct.

You should find a way to get pics up when you finish that!
Anyways, is anyone in the market for a rare CafeReo A-3 Skywarrior?
I've got one I could get rid of, I see them going for $45 on eBay but I'm not looking for that much.

I still have to get my Cafereo D-Day C-47 I ordered. Haven't decided if I like it yet, but then I'd probably get Spooky first.

It is the special / secret limited per case Japanese version of the DC-3 / C-47 though, so probably a little rarer, but then again most all of the Cafereo, F-Toys, Bandai, etc. planes become rare or are hard to get after a while. Give or take a few lame ones no?

Very nice JR 8)

Like what you are using for the tarmac. Looks like concrete, or asphalt.

Don't have any 1:144 aircraft from Vietnam era yet, but Spooky is a good place to start. Your pic shows the machine guns. Gatling gun out the door is cool.

The Hueys and Cobra are which make?

The tarmac came in a WWII airfield set made by Corgi that had Quonset huts, control tower, etc. It was about 6 x 9 inches on thin cardboard. My son did his Graphic Arts Design thing ( some of the college tuition is paying off) by scanning into the computer and hooking up a couple images and printing it out on 11 x 17 paper. That's all it is.

The Hueys are from the F-TOYS Heliborne vol. 1 set. I would love to get a bunch more but the prices are ridicules! The Cobra is a Bachmann Miniplanes from the late 1960's, I am not sure of the scale but it looks pretty close.
The Heliborne vol. 1 set also had Russian Hind's.

Hey, JR. Do you have a 1/144 Hindenburg yet?

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Authentic-Models/19501463

It's actually 1/150 but i figure it's close enough. Almost 5 1/2 feet long.

Well now that you mention it. No just kidding. Wow that would really be something to have but I think I would rather have the MACON airship with the SparrowHawk aircraft with it. I am surprised that it's being sold by Walmart!

i stumbled upon it while looking for 1/144 zeppelin models. I'm not overly interested in airships, myself, but thought it was worth mentioning for sure. Lots of places sell it but WM was indeed a surprise. Sears has it too. Made by Authentic Models.

At 805 feet long the Hindenburg was nearly the length of the Yamato battleship and had about the same beam.

Amazing, pricey though. At Walmart no less. :?:

Did a search, surprised there is not a model kit of a zeppelin in 1:144, preferably WW1.

Put biplanes flying around it you'd have a diorama.

Those Corgi cardboard buildings and hangers are hard to find these days, and they're not cheap either JR.

JR, if you can measure the length of the Huey Cobra i can tell you what scale it is. Just measure the fuselage length (tip of the nose to rear of tail fin).

The Cobra is just a hair under 3 inches. The back of the mini plane box's list the specs on the airplanes including the scale. It happens that the box my Cobra came in was for a regular Huey.

the scales listed for the Bachmann mini planes should be ignored. They are usually not even close. The scale of the Cobra is about 1/170 then, given your measurement. It fits in quite well, though, despite being under scale. I may get one myself.

Arrrg! Youv'e got the Manchester. Forgot about that one. I think that's the hardest to get after the Hampden no?

I noticed the engine fairings in the Hampden are copper red, you paint them correct?

What the...Hudson? Wher'd you get that? Who makes it? :?

""Think I almost got Epap beat in the obscurities department.""

I don't think you're even close, there Dauntless... ;)

The Hudson is by Atlas and very crude. Don't get it unless you can get it cheap, it ain't worth it. Unfortunately, they're aren't selling for cheap, so have to hope for a re-issue or an Altaya release on that one.

The most obscure British bomber is the Ixo/Altaya Whitley, which i luckily found for $40 shipped a couple of months ago. Lucky you say? $40 doesn't sound lucky? They go for $110 to $120 plus shipping usually.
