21st Platoon line??

Post by tderespino » Tue Nov 15, 2005 8:59 pm

I wanted to start this seperatly so it does not get lost,, anyone have any intel on this??? TKO???? is it going to happen or is it a "lost platoon"

If anyone is listening at 21st, there is a market here for XD vietnam figures. If you are not going to do platoon how about dusting off the XD vietnam molds and do a re-release????

I agree. I sold off my Vietnam stuff and now I wish I had kept some of it. I'd love a re-issue of the figures.

...& don't forget the PBR seen in prototype & not heard much of thereafter...& weren't there also some guard towers shown at some toy show that had a Pacific look if not specific to the VN theatre...? C'mon, 21CT, pick up the ball...the fans are on the edge of their seats... :)

Didn't we hear recently that the Platoon figures would be out next year?
And that a re-release of the M48 will be part of that? I could do with another one of those! rc version would be nice, too, if they happen to make it....

Actually, the M48 would be the best RC tank by far - the treads are HUGE and smooth rolling, and the interior is big 'n hollow. That would be very cool. 8)

Sorry guys, I have had my head down working on some projects before the holidays... You know how it is. You have to work twice as hard to prepare to take a holiday and then you come back and work twice as hard to get caught up when you get back.

Anyway- back to the topic at hand. Yes Platoon is still a go, last I heard. Movie licence stuff takes more time. As other posts indicated, I would paln for somewhere in the 4 months of 06. My understanding is also that they will be custom head sculpts with character likeness and I think they are also new bodies???? Will confirm that we get closer.

Was just over in the GI Joe forums, looking at a 'Nam 3 pack of figures coming out. But the more I look at them, they just don't hold a candle to even the first XD series. I don't know - even with the awesome Japanese infantrymen, I really think the Vietnam series is my favorite XD (or BBi) line.

Bring on these Platoon figures!!!!!

Do you have a link to a picture of this Nam 3-pack you speak of? What forums was it posted on?

unless I've got my " 'Joe mythos" wrong. I'm pretty sure this is some Vietnam-flashback comic.

No offense to the Joe guys but those don't count. We'll get some Nam soon enough, hopefully it come with the Boat & M48 8)

Digger, I thought the same thing. It didn't occur to me that this 3-pack was the one being referred to when mentioned. Yeah I agree, re-issue the old Vietnam figures. Heck re-issue all the old figures. Sure the articulation was crappy, but they sure look good in just a plain old standing pose.

The thing that should be brought back in general are the firing arms. Vietnam guys actually had some of the best of those.
In the end the VN guys were warming space at TRU (many reports of $1 figures) so re-issuing them as is may not be wise.

   Bad memories being brought up there. Never saw the clearance, but I can remember seeing the bamboo cardbacks gathering dust and not giving them a good home. D#$#N it still ticks me off. That, and waiting months to decide to get the Mutt with TOW launcher, and the shelf warmers were gone the next time I hit TRU

I'd even like to see the tanker two-packs back at the 21C Fan Club to add some crewman to the Walmart Bulldogs.

Aren't we really talking about the arms and legs of the VN figures??
The torsos and heads were very detailed.

Re-issue them with new arms, legs and a few different headsculps and POOF you have brand new old VN guys!

With a re-issuing of "new' VN guys to go along with Platoon, 21st Century could bring in - Russian advisors. They already have the CIA guy. They could do a multi-vehicle pack like the Merrils Maurader's Pack.
Add a Russian BMP with a M48 Patton - add some VC/Vietcong, Russian Advisor, CIA guy, and the new Platoon figures.
It's sort of a XD combo meal!
and of course we all want ours SUPER SIZED!!!

the "nam"

Post by tderespino » Fri Dec 02, 2005 7:09 am

"You can take a thousand baths and still sweat the nam"

oops, wrong movie.......

let me chime in here,, the first wave VN figures were just that, first wave.

21st was testing the waters, making a 1/18, extreme detail display figure.

Since then they relized the market for "play with" figures.

The first wave had a second set of arms cause you couldn't pose them to hold their weapons properly,, with the slash arms. Even the paras needed a second set...

I just got a few Japanese figures and as they still have the stiff hip joint I was pleased with the Ball joint shoulder.. no need for second set of arms.

Now if the Platoon line has this feature I will be in Hog Heaven,,,"hog Head heaven"

I just need more m16's helmets and AK47's

need the arms

Post by digger » Fri Dec 02, 2005 8:55 am

no need for second set of arms.
Tom, this is where I disagree. I love the shoulder but still think you can get a better firing pose with a tight elbow bend and angled wrist. The closest yet is the bbi 29th Inf. guy - his elbow bend is great.
The thing I DO NOT ever want to see is a GiJoe/Target line like crotch. To me this is the most toy-like feature on figures. It would be a sad development in the world of realistic figures.
