FOV 1:32 Challenger II

Has anyone else picked up the FOV 1:32 Challenger? Mine arrived the other day. This has to be the largest tank yet by FOV. I was amazed how big this vehicle is. The details are excellent with plenty of add-ons and a decent commander figure. I have to rethink my display formation to make room for this monster.

Speaking of the Challenger, can someone tell me what the side skirts that nearly hang all the way to the ground are for? They look like some sort of fabric like material to me. I'm guessing it is some sort of flexible skirt to defeat RPG rounds?

They are canvas dust skirts used to help reduce the amount of sand that contacts the suspension components.

Can you detach the skirts?

Unfortunately I didn't order this piece, full well thinking I'd be able to pick up the enthusiast version at my local shop that carries Unimax (to which they've ordered none!!!) and pick up several of the "naked" version at either Target or TRU, to which neither have them at this point. Would appreciate any recon on this item, so give a heads up if you run across this british beauty at your local haunt(s).

There is no Action version of the Challenger as far as I know.

I've seen two Challengers so far in the Delaware/eastern PA area, but I still haven't decided whether I want one or not. Hobby Bunker has them in stock, and there are also several listed on eBay.

The Challenger II is a decent looking model. The top machine gun is really done well. The only thing I dont care much for, is that the tank doesnt track well. The suspension is a little soft so that the wheels retract rather than roll, kind of like the Pershing model. The fabric skirts amplify the problem as they hit the driving surface as it tries to roll. Everything else about the model is top notch. I would consider cutting off the fabric skirts just to show the well detailed road wheels...
