Vexillarius Decals

Post by Jackson » Thu Sep 06, 2012 6:09 am

Hey Fellas- I will now be limiting my Custom Decals to U.S. Nose Art, Luftwaffe Escutcheons, script and generally smaller size graphics due to being on last Alps printer....TJJ

if you can even find one they go for up to a grand and have too short a life span to make it worth even considering purchasing, back in the day you could get 'em for $250. - $350... I have plenty of ink but no faith in the life span of the Alps printers... the big rock from space is hurtling towards my last Alps as I write this, justa matter of WHEN and then I go the way of the Dinosaurs.... Extinct..

I have a number of models with your decals on them done by Jnewboy (Jon) and they are top notch. It will be a bad day when your last printer fails.

I take it that it is not cost effective for you to purchase another printer - if this is the case perhaps you should be charging more for your fantastic work Jackson?

I for one would be prepared to pay more for customs with your decals on them.

Praise appreciated CPaul but I try to make them affordable... some people balk at prices but most people don't.. when I have to draw up Nose Art, Escutcheons and Pilots personal marking such as Hartmanns Usch and Karyaya radio call sign or Barkhorns Christl I tend to up the cost just for the time sittin in front of PC but in the end it's still just a decal...TJJ... Here's Bongs Marge I did the decals for a fella on the Forum... Image

Jackson's decals are top notch and I recently purchased some for my customs. I will definitely miss his work. Finished the Bader Hurricane with his decals and it looks so much better. Next project is Barkhorn 190. Marge looks great.

I am happy to be getting some more decals soon for a few more customs that I have plans to complete. Here are couple of photos of Schilling's "Hairless Joe" P-47 that I made with Jackson's decals. part of the new shipment are the stars and bars that go on the wings. Sorry for the out of focus ones.

Sad to hear that, Jackson. :(

Your work is top notch, and many of the members here have some of your fantastic work. Thanks for the great contribution you have made to the 1/18 hobby.

Marge does look great, BTW.

Yes sir...you did my markings for "Bevkaneve" K-604 SAAF Sabre. They are still beautiful.

Unfortunately, I still haven't done the F14D in the VF-31 Tomcatters markings you made for me. Lucky I got extras. I expect they will be as awesome as most ALL the work you have done for us....and many thanks from me personally.

Sorry to hear this as well. I've got a few models with your handiwork - from my Pickelhaube Horten, to the Spitfire roundels, Old Crow noseart, "Wine Women & Song" P-38 noseart, to various small labels and kill markings. Heck, at my parents house, your custom decals grace a couple models prominently displayed in the family room for everyone to see: the "US ARMY" lettering on the PT-17 Stearman model my Dad and I constructed as well as the custom name plate for the wooden Chris-Craft 1938 runabout boat model my dad made.

Sir, I'm trying to convert my Admiral F86 to John Glenn's Mig Mad Marine... any chance you can help? I'd have sent you a PM but I'm a newbie and can't figure out how to do that. :P

Hey Jackson,

Actually, I lied. I'm keeping my Admiral Sabre as is. The F86 I'm converting is the 21st Century Huff, soi can use some of the striping and other markings for Mig Mad Marine. I have not yet done any work to it. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, by the way. Lemme know what you think!

Image ok Fox3 let's see, yer gonna have to purty much keep all markings on Huff {mask off all wing and fuselage starbars, USAF on underwing, the in theater yellow bands and black borders and the checkerboard on vert stab, you'll have to paint the red band on upper vert stab} you'll have to remove the dragon and all related nose art, fuselage and vert stab aircraft identification numbers. Here's what I'll provide ifn printer holds up. the MMM,LAD nose art, pilots name on canopy, red star kills and 2 fuselage FU-584 and 2 vert stab U.S. AIR FORCE 24584 aircraft ID numbers... I also have a standard Sabre minutae sheet{small stenciling markings} already printed from days gone by if needed..yer thots ?

Sounds like we're on exactly the same page of music! I made a list of work I have to do and came up with the same things. I'm in!

Oh, one other thing. Any thoughts on what brand/color of silver paint I should use, that matches best? Just curious to hear from someone with more experience than me. Thanks again!

Fox3- there are a variety of fellas that know more about which paints to use than I, purty much decals is my realm... just ask the Forum in Custom and Mods section as a general question about which paint to use and you'll get an answer right quick...TJJ
