Are you working on the infra-red scope and black lamp that attached to the driver's compartment on the Panther?

I think they used the same scope . But just by itself with out the other sighter.
The mount should also be the same .
But I am non too sure.

Re: Battleground Toys 1:18 Vampir IR
they are the same, just different mounts
Re: Battleground Toys 1:18 Vampir IR
Yes. The infra-red scope mounted low, in front of the driver's hatch front.Jnewboy wrote:they are the same, just different mounts
The black-light lamp mounted separately on the glacis plate, near the top part (I think).
Can't remember if there are two lamps or just one.
I researched this quite awhIle back and cant find my notes. Will Google it.
If Grunt's piece can separate, I think all the necessary parts are there. If I recall,
the lamp mounted onto iron/steel strips welded to the hull, which can be modeled with
strip styrene.
Dang, I am sucked into this project well and good now.

Re: Battleground Toys 1:18 Vampir IR
Thanks guys. It is a single part as shown. Cutting the appropriate bits out to make a second front scope or a unit for a 251 would work.
Re: Battleground Toys 1:18 Vampir IR
I don't have experience ordering from shapeways, can anyone explain the differences, outside of color, for the various product changes? For instance the "frosted ultra detail?" Is that really more detailed? Is it worth 2x the price?
Thanks all for the help.

grunt is the expert but I was advised by him to stick with the strong whitepaulpratt wrote:I don't have experience ordering from shapeways, can anyone explain the differences, outside of color, for the various product changes? Re: Battleground Toys 1:18 Vampir IR
I ordered the strong white version myself. Keep it simple, is my rule of thumb.

Yes, WSF is a good place to start especially with something small like the Vampir. Once you have your first WSF item in hand you'll see both the good (it's white, strong and flexible just like it says) and the bad (it has a somewhat rough texture compared to ABS). The detail and ultra detail materials are more ABS like and are pretty smooth.
Re: Battleground Toys 1:18 Vampir IR
Got mine yesterday! Nice quality! Gotta figure out what/how to paint this. Looks good on the Panther!
Re: Battleground Toys 1:18 Vampir IR
The Vampir came in today. The casting is good and detailed. But the material has a powdery texture, so the piece of equipment looks like it has had an accident in a flour factory.
What Shapeways material should I opt for if I want something close to the injection-moulded pieces that come in plastic model kits?
Also, can I wash the piece under a tap? Will that help remove some of the powdery substance?
Any assistance is welcome.

Yes, wash it with warm water and it will clear up any of the residue. For the most injection molded like material the ultra detail is the best choice. I recently ordered three of the vampirs, one in each material so I can take some pictures and try to show the differences.
Re: Battleground Toys 1:18 Vampir IR
Thanks Grunt1. I will give it a shot. I was using a small brush on it in the office and it looked like I was snorting coke at my desk. The cylindrical scope part is now hollow, which I like.grunt1 wrote:Yes, wash it with warm water and it will clear up any of the residue. Yes please, the pictures will be helpful.

Re: Battleground Toys 1:18 Vampir IR
Lol. Wait until you order a Goliath or something else with a large hollow part. There is a very small escape hole on the bottom for the loose material and they generally don't get it all out so you can make a pretty nice pile of the "white stuff". The exit hole is about the same size as a resin pock mark so I close it with a tiny spot of putty and call it a day.

The powdery stuff cleaned up real good under warm water and a paint brush, Grunt1. Letting the part dry before applying paint.

Hey Grunt, I think the R4M-Rockets and 21cm-Werferrohre for the Me262 would be nice and uncomplicated products for you.
The R4M was used at the D9 too and the Werferrohre would be perfect for the Me109 G6 too.
I would really like to get those for customizing my MESSERS
A big big "GREAT, PERFECT, WOW " for all your work.
regards
Sven

I'll second the second.... ....
An Ruhrstahl X-4 would be very cool looking on the Horten and Fw - 190.
The infrared optic set will look great on the Panther F, Nice job Grunt!!
