What Should The Next Aircraft Mod Kit Be ?
OK Guys ,
Here I go again.
I will try to stick to my original starting date for the K2 . I will do the Sdkfz 251 mod kits .
The Ho-229 was was a success kind of but it overshadowed everything else.
So my plan is allocate time for each project during the day or separate the projects per day. Is this going to work ? Only time will tell.
I have been kicking around the idea of a new mod for aircraft. Some for years.
So here you go choose the mod and it will be done.
1. Spitfire. I was planning on doing a clipped wing version with the Volkes tropical air filter. That would be an easy mod but the Spits are selling for $150 ++ . So because of that and the moulds are kaput I was thinking of simply DOING A COPY OF THE 21ST SPITFIRE.Changing it up just a little thinning trailing edges and minor things. Also there was talk of me doing the SPITFIER FLOAT PLANE. That would be cool.
As far as the Spit/float there would be tons to modify to make it.
I am thinking there will be at least $300-$450 worth of RTV alone just to do a copy so I would have to get a deposit if the full copy were to be done.
A. Wing tip and Volkes----$30 aprx.
B. Spitfire copy----------- $ 200- $300 aprx
C. Spitfire Float plane------ $250-$350 aprx.
2. Fw-190 A Lots of talk on this one . I was thinking nose, prop and spinner
A. $80 aprx.
3.Blackhawk DAP kit to tell you the truth I am not sure what has to be done for this mod . A few of you guys have sent me pics but they are long gone. Another enthusiastic member sent me a DAP Pavehawk kit to show me. THANKS !!!. That being said I really am not sure how the price goes with that mod , but I am sure the prices will compare to my ORIGINAL kit.
I think the pricing was fair on that.
So here you go let your voices be heard.
Matthew

Re: What Should The Next Aircraft Mod Kit Be ?
I know I have brought this up a lot, but would a UH-1D full or partial mod kit be a possibility? It would certianly use less resin and RTV than a full Spitfire cast. With JSI gone and bbi only doing repaints, this might be the only possiblity for a new helo. Otherwise, I vote blackhawk DAP.

If doing a full build I vote for the Spitfire floatplane, its really unusual and was actually used, I'm more of a Armor collector, but if you do this one, count me in.

I would like to second Jon's vote for a FW 190A - I would love one of those.
Re: What Should The Next Aircraft Mod Kit Be ?
I still like the idea of a P-51 B/C conversion. I think given the number of P-51's out there it would be a great seller. Just my two cents.......

Butcher bird for me!
Speaking of the Mustang conversion. I have a conversion kit made by "that guy, whose name we dare speak of", I haven't built it yet so if you want photos of it let me know.

Pickel, I know its not a mod.........but an outright custom, we need an Me-163 Komet.

Sorry, now back to the poll.

Since I've already "butchered" my butcher bird by cutting the tail off and modifying the rudder based on the previous thread this was mentioned in I'm really hoping you go with the FW-190 conversion.
The Rufe float plane would be a great project too...right AFTER the FW-190A conversion.

Well we, I ( with the other board members ) brought up the subject of the " D " Huey. Merit or was it JSI was going to re-release the Huey. So there was going to be an abundance of Hueys.
Well that did not pan out. Now those Hueys are going through the roof. So the thought of cutting up a $300 did not seem plausible.
So that idea died on the vine.
It looks like the 190 A mod id a hands down winner ( so far ).
This is good because I have my original cowling . I still need to redo the prop and spinner. I will probably make the fan that goes behind the prop as well.
When I made my Stuka cowling I made it in one piece and roto cast it by hand. I am not sure if I will make the 190 cowling in one piece or two.
Scott, the guy who cleaned up the flash on the Horten parts kind of bailed on me

So I am back to doing everything myself. Otherwise I could get on this ASAP .
But , EVERYTHING has to wait for me to get caught up on back orders.
Thank you Horten project.

Hello!
First time poster, long time lurker. Just gotta chime in and say:
1. Pickelhaube, Your stuff is amazing and I hope to see more aircraft mods in the future.
2. I think a full Spitfire would be the best way to go. (Allbeit it would be nice to see maybe a Mark. V, Mark VI, Mark X, etc.)

Re: What Should The Next Aircraft Mod Kit Be ?
Pickel,
I was the one who sent the 1/35 DAP kit as well as some additional BBI pavehawk winglets for you to play with. I'm still hoping to one day do the DAP version, but have since sold my spare pavehawk I was planning on using to do it, so I'd have to find another blackhawk/pavehawk to make the mod - or buy the new version they just released. That would probably be cheaper as it already has the FLIR and Radome and windows cut out and mini-guns.
We'd need the fuel probe, crab eyes, new winglets with the cannon on one side and missles/rockets on the other side. Would probably get the rear antenna as well since you've done it.
That's where my vote is going, but like I said I've waited this long and can wait longer (just don't forget about me helping you out early on).
Thanks,
Phil

Re: What Should The Next Aircraft Mod Kit Be ?
Personally I'd go with the DAP kit, as long as it included the parts from the first kit as well.
and Could be molded in black to match the new Blackhawk.

Still withering away from the A-10 Hunger Striker.
Re: What Should The Next Aircraft Mod Kit Be ?
I still would like to see the P-51 B/C conversion. I feel it would be a great seller given how many 1/18 P-51D's are out there.

Re: What Should The Next Aircraft Mod Kit Be ?
They will all get done at some time .
But when , who knows ?
Just not enough time in the day and there is always some interruption.

Re: What Should The Next Aircraft Mod Kit Be ?
if you are going to do the Blackhawk MH/ DAP, you need to have the AUX fuel tank, and the fast roping bars so we can change the helicopter out for various missions.

Re: What Should The Next Aircraft Mod Kit Be ?
I've studied the fast roping bars. It's a real problem, because the cabin roof of the BBI model is higher than in the real helicopter. If you want to extend the bars a little bit out of the cabin, you have to make a newer, less high roof so the bars are more at the level of the cabin doors. If so, you will not have anough height for positionning correctly the relative tall BBI figures, neither sitting nor on their knees... An other possibility is to make the bar carrying structure mounted with a pantograph like device, allowing the structure to be housed at the roof and lowered at door level to get the bars out... A simpler way could also be a double rectangle, swivelling parallel to another, hidden in the carrying structure when it's in the position "high", but in this case, the bars would be more forward or backward in the helicopter...
Of course, I'v nether seen a real Blackhawk, so it's only what I can imagine. Do the bars really slip out of the cabin for fast roping???
Making the inner cabin auxiliary tanks seems to be much more easy, if one time I make my Pave Hawk with lights and prop motion, it's the place in which I'll put the battery.
