If Merit stays with World War II Navy planes, beside the previously-mentioned F4F wildcat how about:

1. SB2C Helldiver--lots of history and paint schemes (please NO folding wings).
2. F8F Bearcat--no US combat history, but a cool-looking plane with racing history.

I'm still hoping someone will release some 1/18 World War ONE fighters since Admiral apparently went under....a 1/18 Sopwith Camel and SE5A with lots of history, paint schemes and aces.

WOW a 1/18th Devastator would be awesome. If the next model from Merit is finished as well as the Dauntless the type of aircraft may not matter as much!
A Val or Kate could also be a winner.

They CANNOT produce another Dauntless or they will flood the market like some other past manufacturers to be left unamed

...more Dauntless' are on the way and the most important one (Midway) is next. I wouldn't worry about flooding the market though, these are popular and well done with not too many left of the first one I suspect.

If continuing with the Navy theme, a Curtiss Helldiver SB2C would be awesome.

Is it possible to make a Kate or Val? The Val sunk more allied shipping than any other axis aircraft.

All three of these have been made in 1:72 diecast by Hobby Master / Skymax in more than 5 different versions each with enough schemes. I would not mind that at all in 1:18.

With Army aircraft, there's more P-40's out there too with the later P-40N. Some of the most unique schemes and nose art on these.
