They are a mixed bag. Some have loose joints and don't hold a pose well. Others like the Punisher have a horrible head sculpt or paint aps that are sloppy. They are also taller than most 1:18 figures, which I was dissapointed in.

The second series is better scaled and has less defects. They fit much better with othrer figure lines. Dr Doom is rallying my Cobra Troops with Cobra Commander glaring behind him. Human Torch is hanging with the Microman Military Force guys.

Hopefully series 3 will continue to improve.

pcb is right on them being a Mixed bag.

Though still they are great to have some super posable Superheroes finally at this scale :D Instead of having to customize them.

Series 2 is indeed better though IMO Cap America was the let down. As a Cap fan I think he`s too thin for that character. The shield was very nice though.

Anyway over all there worth while getting. Like the Marvel Legend line, there are some good & bad eggs, lets hope with the SHS series 3 they have learnt from there past mistakes & have truely put the figures on a better footing :D

I found my fav, Ghost Rider at TRU. Check in the Batman/spiderman isle. Some point on them don't look very good, but over all let are cool. Take Ghost Rider, his hands are molded fists, so he came hold anything. Plus his collar and shoulder spikes are too big. I plan on fixing the those, but I do like him as is to a point.

Unfortunately no, I was referring to Toy Fair the toy show not the magazine, there's no pics as far as I know.

Here's a few pics(click the thumbnails) of few of my favorites in the first two waves:

Captain America fits right in with the WWII bbi and 21st Century figs. Love the shield. Now we wait for a Red Skull. The Hulk is a great nemesis for modern day figures.

Loose joints can be cured with the boil/freeze trick, except, after dipping in hot water, insert the tip of a needle in the center of the pivot axle (do not extend completely thru joint), then dip in freezing water with the needle still in place. This seems to expand the axle of the joint and when removed it remains expanded. I only tried this with unpainted ankle joints but it works and can be repeated as necessary. This works with most articulated figures. With larger figures, a larger pin may be necessary, up to a small brad (nail) tip.

In some cases the tip of the needle or straight pin can be left inserted, cut with wire cutters and pressed permanently in place with needle nose pliers concealing the sharp, cut metal. A dab of thick (un-thinned) paint will conceal efforts. Recommended for advanced modelers only.

I was so glad to see that these got picked up by the major retailers; the first two assortments were a "market test" exclusive to TRU, but now they should be showing up everywhere. I think I'm most stoked about Namor...assuming he's in his classic green swim trunks we'll be able to have some cool Invaders scenes :D

Oh boy, more variants. Just a little miffed that the Beserker Logan was a variant in the first series. Wanted him for some customs, and instead I get the Spidey variant. :? Really liked the Iron Man. I know its not right, but I have him fighting my Sentinel from the Legends series. At least we get some female characters.

Another fix for loose joints: put a drop of superglue in the joint and keep working it around till it dries. If you keep moving the joint it prevents it from getting stuck, and the glue fills in the gaps causing the looseness. If the loose joint is one of the ball and socket joints, put a drop on the ball and let it dry, this will make it subtly larger and fit in the ball better.

i think there great, my only problem is they are made of really soft plastic, everytime i open them they are kind of frozen in place from the paint and i have to really try to bend each joint till it pops then they are sometimes kind of loose, but the plastic is so soft that some of mine have torn before they will pop and loosen, does that make sense?

I still think they have some of them a little too thin IMO.

Cap looks really off due to his torso & head. The arms, waist,Legs & Shield are all fantastic But the Torso just sucks BIG TIME :(
Though i have something in the pipeline to remedy that ;)

Also readdress the head choice too & have a more appropriate head rather than the Farscape type we currently have.

Then a SHS Cap they way he SHOULD have looked will be shown (once I`m done) :D

I still like my Custom Cap I did, just SHS has more articulation & I love articulation.

Though I`m truely hoping they`ll address cap & redo him again though more accurate & a lot better. Just not like ML 8 Hunchback Cap.....lol

Nice list

Post by markecho » Mon Nov 28, 2005 8:41 pm

Well I broke down and bought Wolerine and Hulk a couple of weeks ago just because I was curious...
I like the fact that they are close to 1:18 scale but they do need to be improved. No wrist rotation and the way some of the joints pop out makes limited posability...but the detail is there
BUT the fact that you can get a better articulated and bigger figure for sometimes just $1-1.50 more (Marvel Legends) doesn't put these figures too well in the "more bang for your buck" category. Still the upcoming figs list is a great one and if they improve I may just have to get a set of 1:18 Xmen :)

Here are some comparison pics with BBI fig:

and another just for fun:

Nice pics! Are those photos you used for the background?

I think the price on these will drop once other retailers pick these up, and hopefully the quality will pick up as TB continues to work at this scale.

glad to share

Post by markecho » Tue Dec 06, 2005 9:21 pm

hey guys -thanks! always a pleasure to share.

and fredricchio the background is actually a computer screen shot of a computer game (i'm not sure if you are familiar with them). on GPs old site i posted this one time...what i did was there is a WWII PC game called Battlefield 1942 and what I did was took several screen shots, tiled them together and printed them on a large format printer..and viola instant backdrop. just FYI.

Looks pretty promising...I just hope they fixed the articulation. The X-men will go great with the ML sentinal!

Love the little dio action above :D

From what I`ve heard July we see the vehicle packs (Wolverine & Bike,Ghost Rider & Bike,Namor & Hammerhead shark). Possibly also the STarter Double packs too.

The Single pack figures will be released in October.

So awhile longer to wait still :(

Though they DO look like they`ll be well worth the wait :D

July for the riders? @#$!$#!@%#!!!!!

I've been taking a look at Namor, and thinking he's got some potential for doing some Tet Offensive customs. And Logan's got some potential for general civilian with the jeans.
